More noises :-(

Featured Replies

I'm probably making abit of a nusence of myself posting about 'strange noises' but what else are forums for? :-P

Right i have a 1.2 tsi monte and when pulling of in forward or reverse on half lock i have a strange grinding/rubbing noise, again this is itermittent. I have checked around arch liners etc doesn't seem to be anything catching on the wheels, anybody have an idea of what this could be?

Thanks, Dave.

Is it the sort of noise that a tyre would make or is it just brake pads touching discs?

once you start going forward at speed the pads are thrown away from the discs.

I can't decide if it's the brakes or not. As the brakes to tend to make abit of a grinding noise when coming to a stop, but surely it would do it when the wheels are straight not just on a lock?

Ill try to make a video.

You are better getting someone that will not run you over to reverse the car slowly

while you listen from close by.

Or safely Jack the car up at the front corner,

with the steering turned to half lock and spin the wheel/tyre while listening,

see if the disc/pad makes a grinding noise.

5 minutes, job done.

If not that, move onto the next thing to try.

Could be.the power steering as the fabia is well known to have a bit of a noise when in lock and moving ?

think this is a different noise as my fabia does make a noise when on full lock but thats just cause you're putting it under strain? this is definatly something brake/wheel related as its only when im moving.

Put some miles under the wheels.

Do you even use the brakes much,?

i hardly touch mine other than first thing to clear the surface rust.

I pull the hand brake on a little for the rear in the first few yards.

(yours will be drums at the rear tho, so not needed with yours)

Mine start corroding over night,

& thats a new set of discs all round,1000 miles ago.

No, i barely use my brakes to be honest, never have.

Ill see how it goes, it's only just hit 1000 miles. Just abit embarrissing when people at work are asking me why my cars making grinding noises after 1 month. lol! i think they've heard 'skoda is made by vw' enough times now :giggle:

My Son in Law had this problem on his Fabia Sport and it was found to be a front spring grinding in the cup of a front suspension strut.

I know it was an easy fix, probably re-seating or greasing up, not sure.

Hope this helps.
