Gearbox oil change and coolant change - help/pointers

Featured Replies

Hi,

Don't fully know my way around the car yet, can anyone give me pointers on doing both.

I suspect the gearbox has a filler hole and drain hole, takes approx 2.3 litres?.

As far as the coolant and bleeding

what's the best way to bleed?,

is their a bleed valve or anything on the heater pipes?

also how much fluid does it take for a coolant change (i have two tubs of genuine g22 stuff from skoda)?

Lastly where is the drain valve for the radiator is it on the bottom or accessible elsewhere?

Cheers

Gearbox

For the right oil see previous threads - depends on speeds etc.

Check the plugs; some need special VW sockets, but others (such as mine) use large conventional drain plug sockets. Make sure the filler opens before loosening the drain :giggle: :giggle: .

Coolant bleeding is easy - no special tricks - usual fill/run/squeeze pipes/fill/run.

Radiator does have a drain, but it is a pig to get at; bottom passenger side - a twist out knob rather than a screw and up behind the cross bar.
