Air Filter/Oil Pressure sensor 58 plate 170TDi

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just collected my car from its 20k service at a local garage. The service was very cheap....until the bloke noticed that the engine oil hadn't been added on to the bill - which made it more as I expected. Drove the car out of the garage yard, about 100m down the road, and the oil pressure warning (stop engine) appeared in the maxidot display. I took the car straight back, asked at the garage, and one of the mechanics came out and had a look (checked dip stick twice, possibly deliberately not letting me see it the second time, and had a look in the oil filler cap), then said that they'd take it round to have a proper look. 10 minutes later car reappeared for a quick test drive, and then keys handed to me with the explanation that 'the oil pressure sensor had been knocked when the air filter was replaced'.

At this point I found myself wondering if they'd forgotten to put any oil in it, and then made something up. Does the explanation make sense? What warnings would I see if the engine had no oil in it at all, and would there be a risk of damage on a 200m drive with no oil?

Thanks for any information.

Sounds fishy??
