Mk1 vrs Vs Mk3 vrs

Featured Replies

Dear all

I've owned a 2001 vrs (mapped) now for over 5 years which has given me 60k of virtually trouble free motoring. Sadly thoughts are now turning to a replacement. The question I'm wrestling with is this: Do I continue along the same path and buy another vrs (mk 3 tsi facelift and remap it) or do I go for something different as I do fancy a change. Would I notice a significant enough difference between my original vrs and one of the latest models to satisfy my urge for something that's feels 'different' to what I've got? (when I say different I'm talking overall performance, drivability and refinement).

Cheers

If you fancy a change then why not get something else, Skoda's do offer great VFM though and the Octavia is hugely practical.

Yes I do fancy a change - would love a 6 cylinder so have looked at a few BMW 130i's and 330i touring which aren't supposed to be too drastic on fuel but when I look at everything on a balance I always come back to another vrs, as you say fantastic vfm. I was just wondering if anyone had experience of both mk1 and Mk3's if I would feel a marked change in how they drive and perform - if that's the case then I would look for another vrs.

I had 3 mk 2 octys over a 6 year period and thought they were great but I just wanted something different and 4wd plus I didn't need the big boot anymore.

Mark 2 FL you mean , the mark 3 is not out yet , Jonno you need to update your photo

Me too but I get to see the R every day ;-)

The sound of a straight 6 Beemer is something to savour on full vocals..............I used to have one...........problem is they sound soooooo good, you get low 20's to the gallon.

pah when mine is on full vocals it gives mid teens to the gallon AND you can see the fuel guage going down ;-)

So if you managed to drive 'steady' what mpg could you get?

My Mk1 gets low 20's. :giggle:

If you dont need boot space get a 6cyl petrol beemer. Try the manual first though as i did not like the manual gearbox in mine though mine was a diesel. Would have though a N/A petrol would be pretty relible also.
