FMIC Help

Featured Replies

Looking to go to stage 2 over the next few months. Been looking at FMIC's and apart from the really expensive Forge cooler can anyone recommend a cooler that is good for the Octi and a direct fit without any modification?

I think all fmic will require some sort of modification to a certain degree. The THS intercooler looks good and I'm sure someone on her has fitted one.

Other than that you'll need deep pockets for a pro alloy set up or go with an eBay special which will need tweaking for the want of a better description.

Or I've stumbled across this

I'm also looking to go stage 2 as cheap as possible but functional so will be watching this thread.

Cue the briskoda elite! :)

Mines a toyosports one arkward to fit but seems to do job well did 258 at 14psi so not much boost realy

I have seen the Toyosport ones and may end up going down this route. As above (tin0) looking to do it as cheap as possible but don't want to waste my money on c**p.

Toyosport one works well, I see good temps according to torque

Your choices are expensive but fits with minimal hassle, or cheap and you have to tinker a bit more.

I won't be fitting but just trying to cut down on labour costs with fiddling etc.Can any one that has fiited the Toyosport cooler tell me if there are any extras that a may need to buy so fitting goes easier?

I had a ths one on mine!

Ive since removed it and on the stock smic at a measly 210bhp the car is crap! Heat soaked to the high heavens and nothing like it was

My ths fmic from a mk iv golf 1.8t

Gee is running a cheaper FMIC. Worth picking his brains for info.

toyo sport is fine and they work well

ive had forge pro alloy etc etc and have run them from 200 to 400+ and i currently use a toyosport one ;-)

they are fiddle but find a local engineering firn to do you some hard pipes ( not that expensive ) you dont want loads of joints as they can be prone to boost leaks

and dont forget you need map sensor tube i can supply you one if you tell me what size pipe you will be running

for ease of fitment you will never beat pro alloy but that comes with the biggest price tag and isnt the best

Good thinking Pete l speak to him at the South East meet in a couple of weeks.

I was lucky the last owner fitted mine, must of been a right pita, think he was that sick of it that he left most of the hard pipes for the smic in place and only removed the smic lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Edit using Tapatalk is a pita aswell lol

Gee is not running a cheapy! B) I did have 2 toyosports but could not be arsed with the faffing about to fit them. I have a twinpass made by a company that tune Ford RS`s. (a little like forge to vag) It was slipped out the back door as the fella owed me a favour at mate rate to Gee because Gee is a geeza!! :p

Pipework is a big factor as well... money for all the small bits soon adds up. if you want to talk more Porkingtons ill happly PM you. There are to many Crettins on here ready to hate. :) Lowerst temp i seen under load is 16c as well according to torque! :)

I said cheaper not cheapy lol. As everything is CHEAPER than Forge. But of course inferior.

You need to ask gee nicely to get you what he has under load with them temps is bloody good and it fits nice ( check out his build thread it on there ) he is also a creation dealer so can get you all you need in one hit so makes sense

Yes, yes... all hail Forge, creators of the only good things you are allowed to buy!

If a cooler can keep the IATs around 20 degrees on a 14 psi remap then its pretty damn good. The standard SMIC lets temps go up to about 40 after a remap, you can lose a good 20 bhp
