Teething Problems - please advise

Featured Replies

Last week I collected my new Fabia Elegance Hatch 1.2 TSI 105 DSG with the Amundsen+ and MDI interface add-ons, but songs playing on my MDI-lead connected iPod swap the stereo image over halfway through each song. Also, compared to the standard Swing stereo, my Amundsen+ seems a little unrefined and "rough" sounding. Is this right? Also there's no DAB Radio despite the Amundsen+ book saying there is (I'm in the UK).

Another thing, the doors are supposed to all lock once the car reaches 15kph (according to the manual anyway) but when I exceed this speed the doorlock button is not illuminated red (like when I manually lock the car from the inside) and if I wind down the window I can still open my door from the outside so it hasn't locked while driving. Do I have to set something up to get the "auto locking" to work?

No idea about the Amundsen units.

With regard to the Auto-Lock feature it's not something you can set-up from the maxi-dot. You can either do it via VCDS (supposing that you have the interface) or it's a trip to the dealer's. For a brand new car I'd go with the second, and demand it's done for free of course. I've heard there are some idiots out there that can charge for such a nonsense...

I asked the dealer to enable the auto lock feature and one click to open all the doors.

You hear the locks going 'clunk' as you get to about 10mph - I've never checked to see whether the light comes on!

As it's a new car I would expect the dealer to 1) ask before delivery and 2) do it for free if they hadn't.

Can I ask any users of the Amundsen+ and MDI interface some questions please as I have some sound problems on my new Fabia Elegance...

MDI - the stereo imaging keeps swapping around randomly, and the very beginning of tracks played off my iPod Touch is cut off most times when I select it. Anyone else have these problems?

Amundsen+ The "Amundsen+" Manual that came with the car says I should have DAB Radio, Sound EQ Presets and Surround Sound but none of these are present (I'm in England). Have I been short-changed on this £642 add-on?

Overall, my main quibble is that the overall sound quality of any source material (Radio/MP3/CD) sounds harsh, slightly distorted and a little "granular" compared to the standard Swing system sound that I auditioned before I ordered this new car. Also the rear speakers sound dull as dishwater. I'd assumed that the extra money I paid for this sound system upgrade would give at least the same sound quality as the Swing but this is not the case at all.

Hi FFF,

I have this unit. It isn't great. Different volumes for different stations, am reception quite poor, no dab (I think it's just the uk that its disabled for from what I read.) You're teasing me surely with mention of surround sound and equaliser presets :-)

Anyway, I had the track skipping issue in another car and it turned out to be the iPod/phone being set on shake to shuffle. I'd have the iPhone sitting there happily in the cup holder and each time you hit a bump it'd change track. Took me a while to realise why - I'm a techno idiot!

I simply have a 4Gb SD card (I think) in the slot now with all my favourite albums and podcasts. Especially as the media lead no longer fits into my new iPhone. I refuse to pay £25 for apple's adaptor - I'll wait until they're at DealExtreme for $1 each :-)

Thanks pumpsmynads - does your Amundsen+ sound a bit rough in the mids and generally have a slight underlying distortion to it regardless of what's playing? Mine does - especially when comparing it to the standard Swing system anyway. My iPod tracks don't skip as such, they just reverse the stereo imaging at random, through the MDI. How are your rear speakers? Mine sound dull....

Let me have a listen when I get back home. I'm on a break at the moment.

I asked the dealer to enable the auto lock feature and one click to open all the doors.

The light does illuminate in the centre console once all doors lock at 15kph

The dealer should do this for free if you've only had the car for a week or so, mine did mine and the wife's, they did try to charge for the wife's car but there was no way I was paying as they hadn't asked us how we wanted the car set up prior to delivery.
