Fuel warning light

Featured Replies

Just came on near to work in the fabia vrs tdi. Trip computer says 50 miles til I run out. Do I trust it an drive 35 miles back to where I'm here fly stayin before I fill her up again?

I feel like I'll be living on the edge a bit

Depends how well you know your car.

I have run all mine down to a range of 0, and then driven a mile or two to get fuel...

On older cars I'd like to keep a bit spare as you do sometimes get some sediment in the bottom of the tank.

Drive economically and you should be fine, the calculation of 50 miles will be based on your recent driving style.

The fuel warning light and beep happens on ours with 30 miles remaining.

Once that 30 miles is gone I can drive at least a further 50 miles before needing to fill up.

So basically when it reads 0 miles left there is then a few litres reserve left.

Months ago driving back from Germany with 4 adults and a boot full it read 0 miles somewhere around castleford but still got us home then the next day I filled it up with 41 litres of fuel so still 4 litres left in there.

I'd be wary of trying this unless you know the car though OP.

On the Yeti a range of 0 miles means around a litre left.

I'm gonna risk it :p I will be so annoyed if I endup on the hard shoulder of the m5. I drove at 75 all the way this morning and will probs do just 70 on the way back.

In theory my fuel consumption should be better on fumes than a full tank due to less weight. I think I'm gonna make it back, seeing as its only just come on and I trust the trip computer a little bit

It should tell you in the owners manual I would have thought as to whether the fuel remaining on the display includes the reserve or whether it excludes it and once it's 0 then you are onto the reserve.

Ive driven my octy until it says 0 miles to empty but it really doesnt like it, feels to get really stuttery unless you drive it like a saint

I know the volvo fuel gauges are calibrated with some safety margin in them, am sure most makes are same

It's all good, I made it back. Filled up and apparently could have done another 30 miles :p
