Front bumper spraying . Should I ?

Featured Replies

Well my girlfriend left a nice scratch in the lower passenger side of me front bumper the other day in my silver octy vrs :( ( never let the gf drive) anyways I was considering getting the whole bumper resprayed . I've just looked at loftys thread where he preped and resprayed his vrs front bumper using rattle cans .. I'm just wondering what is the process ? Sand, prime, paint , lacquer ?? Iv a general idea but just wanted to be sure . I'd feel confident enough trying this .

yeah sand, prime paint, laquer.

buy quality paint! hours of prep is important, i sanded with 600, 800, 1000, and 1600 grit paper, then primed, and sanded again with 1000 grit, then painted all in one go layering the paint, then half hour later laquer - in coats 5 mins apart. then 24hr in hot room

but if its a low scratch, sand it smooth and just spray colour thin ly on it, youll never know

Just the man I was hoping would reply ;) cheers lofty ... I just wondering man , how far back should I sand the front bumper before priming ?

all shinyness should be away basically. but as i say if its low- sand it good and smooth and just thinly spray the area, i doubt you would know, saves alot of prep and the risk of it ending up worse than the scratch.

True I guess . The front bumper has a couple of marks on

It so I guess a whole respray would make sense . What paint did u use ? I was considering halfords for primer an paint ? But that may be a bad decision :( ?

go to a specialist paint supplier, they have great paint and new nozzle that give a nice pattern. Halfords paint is rubbish for lardge panels.

I basically got 2 pack in cans, which is essentially the stuff they use in compressors, grey primer from same place too mate, they should supply all inc sandpaper. budget £40-£50.

front bumper needs about 400-500ml for each product

Watch out for 2k paint too. Carcenogenic.

yes, keep yourself masked and skin covered

Well I'd be more than happy with that . Are the bump strips hard to remove ?

no, small screw driver at on end and 'pop' then pull gently at each clip, lower grilles 2 outer pull out, main one pushes in
