oil catch tanks

Featured Replies

Hi there, i've just cleaned out my agr valve and inlet manifold again on my 51 plate 1.9 tdi octavia. It was'nt as bad as the first time i did it but wondered about fitting a catch tank to try and sift out some of the oily mist in the crank case then a return hose to the inlet. Will this be any good or will it affect any settings in the ecu. I'm assuming that the oily mist is coming from the crank case and not through the turbo.

Also, i here about people blanking off the egr pipe from the exhaust manifold, could'nt you just blank off the vacuum pipe so that the diapragm does'nt opperate the valve hence the gasses cannot get in ?

Thanks for any reply's, Mike.

I vented the ccv through a catch can to the atmosphere, no problem with the ecu. I just blanked off the pipe going into the air intake. If you fiddle with the EGR you will get a fault light.

Pretty sure on pre 2002/3 TDI's you can plug the EGR Vacuum pipes to stop it operating without it putting the EML on. On the later engines you have to get it written out of the ECU.

I've fitted the Seat Ibiza reduction gasket on the EGR pipe which restricts the flow without causing a code. Dunno if guys on briskoda are doing this mod, but it's popular on ASN with TDI owners.

about the crank case breather search for elephant mod, most just run the crank case breather section to a catch can with a filter on top of the can and blank off the hole behind the maf to the turbo, a cork off a 2 litre bottle of juice works well, about the egr valve you could take the pipe off but you'll need to get it mapped out of the ecu, mines is a 2001 and well i have an egr delete and it's not got any faults, but thats the older ecu i have
