VRS Mod advice

Featured Replies

Ok, new VRS due to be delivered in December (hopefully), and I've been having some discussion with the dealer about the Eibach springs. After about 4 weeks of trying to get an answer I've finally be informed that they're priced at £379 fitted, just interested in whether that's a standard Skoda price, whether it varies and whether that's a good price for them?

Also after a bit of info on tuning boxes i.e. best performance / most reliable / best value? Same question on induction kits really. New to Skodas so looking to try and pick the brains of those in the know!

For induction kits get an Itg kit. The forge is a waste of money so avoid at all costs.

The only tuning box worth looking at is the tmc one but your better of getting a remap.

Someone will be along about the springs soon I've got coilies so can't comment.

I've got H&R -40mm springs, cost about £140 an fitted them myself, most garages will fit them for about £100. I wouldn't pay dealer prices for fitting

I'd seen something about the ITG somewhere on the forum, bit concerned about the cold feed set up though? I did consider a remap but then as far as I'm aware there aren't any companies to do one in west Wales and I don't fancy a trip every time I have a service and they re-flash the ECU.

I'd considered other springs, but figured that the ones on the Skoda list would be better for avoiding any warranty arguments and all that nonsense. Happy to stand corrected on the matter though! The price on the H&R's is appealing, did you need to replace the dampers as well or are the stocks suitable?

My biggest problems are to do with potential insurance issues with too many mods and warranty problems with Skoda so I'm probably being over cautious

Remove before dealer so it gives them no idea plenty of threads now about the filters (they all have poor air feeds) i use ramair filter much cheaper then air filter built for vrs.

Tmc is brill i had one but had to sell :( which i never but use v-power/alternative

Just on standard shocks, they work well. Insurance wise for me is about £20 a year extra and warrenty wise? If anything was to break due to the springs, for example a shock its not exactly going to break the bank to replace, it just depends on what goes wrong and how funny the dealership want to be.

I was quoted about £360 for the Skoda Eibachs fully fitted (£180 for the springs - standard prices and £180 for fitting - dealer rates). Was quoted about the same from a reputable independent garage. Apparently if you get them fitted by the dealer at PDI then they are covered by the cars 3 year warranty, while fitted after PDI they only get a year.

I have eibach springs fitted to my car, improvement from standard in looks and handling in my opinion, I am shortly to be selling these shortly if you wanted to make me an offer, been on my car roughly 3.5k.

I used to run a TMC tuning box, quality for what it is really was surprised by the power it is noticeable! now using APR for remap :)

As for intakes I havernt got an ITG or anything like that, I simply customised the standard air box and feed from the front grill with a pipercross panel filter within which is doing a great job, I did have a forge intake, however, like the other guys above mention...stay WELL clear, they are pants!

Im not a fan of the TMC boxes personally, i dont like how they achieve the power.

If you after high impact modifications, i would say the two biggest impact mods i have done to my car are the superpro poly bushes and the big brake kit.

I got eibach's fitted to mine for £320 at jabbasport. Only took an hour and a bit.

I got Eibachs fitted aligned as well £220 :) Unit18 say no more. :sun:

I think the key things I'm looking to achieve really are a slightly tighter drive, a bit more noise and a bit more power. But, nothing that can't be returned to stock without a brief stay in a garage for when I get rid.

From the general consensus I'm getting - ITG and TMC are a good option, and I've probably been slightly over quoted on the Eibachs. Correct?

The big brake kit is something I may consider in the future, definite back burner for the time being.

Forgive me for being a complete numpty...PDI?

Pre Delivery Inspection. (before hand over)

Delivered to the Dealers., then Checked over, Fluids etc. In-Transit parts removed.

some bits and pieces fitted, Nut Covers etc & in this case Springs changed.

I see, so given the above does that mean that the Eibachs, if fitted at that stage would fall within the 3 year warranty or is that just purely hypothetical? I'm a man of many questions, most of them completely pointless to most other people!

Could stop 3 year warrenty on suspenions parts maybe, but if skoda fit them i couldnt see why they wouldnt cover at least a year warrenty, this would be something you would have to speak to either your dealer or skoda customer services about, and get it in writing

I was going on the post previously in this thread and in various others where members have said.

Skoda Lowering springs from Skoda Dealer & fitted as a Dealer fit at PDI, Standard Warranty applied (3 years)

Bought as an official Skoda part & fitted, Standard one year warranty on the Part.

No idea of the truth in it, as suggested, the Dealer & Supplier is the one to ask.

Or straight from the Horses Mouth & safest ask SKODA UK customer services & ask for a conformation in writing.

According to the dealer, and I quote;

"The springs are covered under a 2 year dealer fit warranty".

Aside from that does anyone know of any places in Wales for the APR remap? Not really sure where to look to get the right info, seems to be a lot of conflicting stuff about remaps. Particularly as to whether there are likely to be any issues with re-flashing the ECU when it comes to service time.

you'll find a 2 minute phone call to APR UK HQ will answer that much better than anyone on here can.

I bought the forge intake off of here second hand and I would say it made a huge difference. Far more responsive and made it a good deal quicker. I don't like the itg intake because all the ones I have seen look very 'bodge job'

Vrsy did back to back testing with the forge and standard air box and has proven the forge to be more restrictive than the standard set up. And to be quite frank the forge kit is just a 15quid universal filter with a forge sticker on.

As said below. All 3 of my previous tuners on my car have commented that that the Forge intake that was installed on my car, and on others that they have seen, were choking the power from the car at stage 1 & 2 power levels. And when swapping back to the stock intake, there was no power loss evident. this is why the intake was removed and swapped for an ITG Maxogen setup which did provide gains at stage 1 & 2 power levels.

Its not surprising really either, when you consider the Forge twintake, rated at approximately 400hp on a 2.0TFSI(not a 1.4) but that utilised two of these canisters. This forge option on this car has just the one canister so on a 2.0TFSI you could expect a rating of 200hp, maybe even less on a 1.4TSI with a smaller less powerful turbo.

I approached Forge about this, and they would not back up the performance of their intake other than they trialled it on a stock car and it showed gains. Well thats all well and good as stock cars are less than 200Hp so i guess, it will show a gain on a completely stock car, but in my experience it doesnt provide any power gain over stock at stage 1 & 2 power levels. Before i changed intake I even asked if they were considering upgrading the intake fo rhigher power levels, but they never got back to me.
