Wiper Problem

Featured Replies

Done a quick search and nothing has come up about this. But I seem to have 2 problems with my wipers. Firstly, the intermittant speed setting does not work i.e. its the same speed no matter where the slider thing is (and yes, the wiper is on its slowest speed).

Secondly, when I put the wipers on the fastest speed (stalk right to the top), nothing happens at all. Its fine on slow and medium speed, but at top speed, nothing happens!

Does anybody have any idea?

Cheers people!

Anybody?

Could it be a faulty wiper relay? :)

I have been down that route before, replaced a relay and a switch and it turned out to be the motor. In my expereience Octavias exhibit two types f wiper fault:

1. Erratic behaviour where the wiper operation bears no correlation to the switch position.

2. The wipers move slower than they normally would do on continuous and fast switch positions.

Number 1 has always turned out to be a faulty motor, and number 2 has always been seized spindles. The cure for a faulty motor is replacement, cure for seized spindles is removal, disassembly, cleaning and lubricating, though prevention is a better alternative. Keep the plastic scuttle panel drain holes clear to prevent water rising over the wiper arm boots and into the spindles, also lubricate occasionally.

Cheers for that people! Looks like I will have to get a new motor then :(
