Indicator/hazards lit for 20 seconds on remote unlocking/turning off engine (Illegal?)

Featured Replies

I self-installed a Viper 1002 alarm, which is primarily sold in America. It has a feature you can turn on which means when you unlock the car with the remote, the indicator lights stay on (solidly, not flashing etc) for around 20 seconds (or until the ignition is switched on). And also when the ignition is switched off, the lights stay on for 20 seconds - or until the car is remotely locked. I've just turned it on to see exactly how it works and if it may be useful. Have put a video below to illustrate. Not sure why the video goes completely black when the lights turn out, as the interior light is still on. Guess it's just the phone cam.

I don't remember seeing any other cars in the UK doing this. Just wondering if there's any specific laws against the lights working in such a manner? (I've turned off the beep on lock/unlock feature as I believe there is some EU legislation against it, and also It would probably annoy the neighbours).

Seems no different from 'See me home lights' or actually being in the car & the lights still on or engine still on & you could be there for more than 20 seconds.

Is this only Dipped Beam & steady indicators that comes on, so that its OK to use when locking and alarming at the roadside?

It's the indicator bulbs themselves which light. No side light, dipped beams, high beams, etc. Guessing it doesn't appear very amber in the video as the auto white-balance is trying to compensate.

No legal issues at all if they turn off when the engine is started and as long as they still flash when indicating etc.
