Droplink hell!

Featured Replies

Hey all have a really annoying issue that I cannot find the answer to! I've recently put coilovers on my vrs but now the arb is tapping on the wishbone, it's driving me crazy, I cannot find adjustable drop links anywhere and have even been told they don't exist? read somewhere that merc c class ones can be the same but are an inch or two shorter Hoping someone could help me out please!!!!!

Brett

try'd Fk Automotive ?

They exist

Try venom motorsport

There shortened drop links. Adjustable ones dont exist

Think you will find they don't exist. The fk ones are totally different and will not fit and most if not all others are for the none VRS anti roll set-up. I have coilovers very low and no drop link touching wishbone

Not sure, mine is very low!! But yes it's only very slightly tapping ontop of the wishbone but its driving me crazy! I don't really know what to do then any ideas anyone?

Simples raise it by a couple of mm lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Yes yes I know lol but I didn't really want to do that!

Why not. It'll handle like poop on the deck anyways...

you said poopdeck...:>

Ahhh, you saw what I did there... ;)

totally dude, and i respect you for it all the more:>

Not sure if these will be any good

eBay item. 181004362739

not really as they are for the mk2 octavia platform, they could be made to fit with some fabrication.

To be honest if you are running that low that your arb is knocking the wishbone, the car will not handle nearly as well as it should anyway, i would raise it as suggested, you will only crack the sump at some point anyway!

Would fitting cast wishbones give more clearance?

hmmm good question, depends if they follow the same profile, or if the cast ones are more arched then maybe you have a little more room to play with.

if they are different though, it will be marginal.

Right finally got some shorter droplinks fitted, now the anti roll bar rubs on the driveshaft on full lock :( I just can't win here, I have noticed that my tires are an extremely low profile, so I have lowered it more than what most would with the correct tire size on! So I'm guessing I I put the old links back on and get the proper sized tires and higher it to accommodate I should be out of the woods? ....... Finally!

How low do people really go on coilovers? I've wound mine all the way to the bottom to raise the drive shaft but still no luck, ill have to put the old ones on and higher it right up by the looks of things! Has anyone tried cuttin a part of the links out and welding them back together? I'm desperate here!!

Cast wishbone would probably help as they are shaped better than the STD VRS ones. But is is the TT Hub that makes the real difference as it has a longer section where the ball joint mounts making the wishbone sit much lower to the ball joint fixing and making much better clearance to the FARB.

Here is a few pics of mine showing the depth of the ball joint to wishbone on the TT Hub and the clearance I have and mine was very low and with the TT Hubs, wishbone the wishbone are still parrellel to the road surface.

You will not be able to fit shorter drop links and still use std Wishbones as the whole set up relies on the legth of the drop link and turing will be effected. I would not go that route.

I just remembered this issue on another thread.....What coilovers have you fitted as a guy fitted some pro sport if i recall and the drop link position on the strut was way to low causing his drop link to hit the wishbone too. This sounds like your issue he did actually fit some short ones from a different car.

just found that thread link here: read it, will help you hopefully.

Well I've managed to get shorter droplinks from a Coilover kit for a v6 4 motion golf, they fit fine but now the roll bar is scraping on the driveshaft!! I'm really confused now they are 250 mm like the ones in the above thread, I have really low profile tyres on I'm

Just wondering if I've wound the coilovers too far down, as with thicker tyre walls ie 225/45 17 my sidewalls are probably half the size of these? Also the rattle I thought was the roll bar on the wishbone is still there :S, I've fitted new arb bushes it also had new top mounts when I fitted the coilovers, could the wishbone bushes cause a metallic rattle/ bang noise if worn? Really need to sort this im starting to hate the car, deep down I love it really!

Bowders!!!!!!! Look at the state of the underside of your car!!!! You should be ashamed, ive never seen anything so disgusting in all my days.

Get it cleaned like mine :giggle:

I'm now getting a creaking noise on the same side from the Coilover leg, like something is snagging? If I hold the cup and steer left to right it's like a rubber snagging noise? Any ideas also the same side as the loud knocking noise :( someone just help a brother out haha!
