Car Radio with USB

Featured Replies

I have seen a Goodmans Car Radio in Argos with a USB port for MP3s. I really like the idea of being able to transfer some MP3s to a USB pen drive via my laptop then to listen to them in the car.

I don't like the idea of a Goodmans however.

Has anyone got any recommendations of such a HU?

Cheers

Martin

Does no one have any pointers then?

Dont know of any that take usb pens, but some blaupunkt models take SD cards, and can even record onto them from the radio.

wouldn't touch a goodmans with yours that is strapped to manny's, sh**e.

the blaupunkt are very good units but as said aren't the prettiest. why not just go for the regular mp3/wma headunit and stick em on cd-r/cd-rw

I'm lazy, having to write files to a CD is boring and time consuming, a CD doesn't fit in my pocket either.

I've got a gadget that plugs into the cigarette lighter and accepts a usb flash drive. It then broadcasts the music on the flash drive and this can be received by tuning in the radio to a range of frequencies between 87-91FM for about 10 metres.

Yea, I know they're illegal in the UK but who really cares??

Quite funny seeing the Radio 2 brigade having their frequency hijacked when I sit next to them at traffic lights by my choice of music !

Very good for security too, cos both the flash drive and the gadget can be slipped into a pocket.

Hey, think of the opportunities! You could connect a microphone and start chatting to them - or even swearing at them!

Where did you purchase such a device? Sounds like a real plan...

Had a look on Ebay and saw this. Is it one of these that you have?

Or something similar? What's the sound quality like on these? And is this a good price?

I've also seen a transmitter on Ebay that takes an input from the headphone socket of an MP3 player. These are cheaper if you already have the MP3 player (but I don't).

looks handy, might get one for the van :rubchin:

i plug my mp3 player into mine...i've plugged in a set of phono's into the back of my stereo and on the other end of the lead is a headphone jack so i just plug this into my mp3 player and away i go. Find that the best way tbh and you can pretty much have any unit you want

I know someone who bought the (illegal in UK) transmitter for the iPod.

Thing is - you could get done for it...

Sony made (makes?) a CD-changer with a transmitter so you can use it with any car radio without inputs. Was tempted by one of those a while back.

Not seen any other makes with USB based MP3 replay though, soz.

Andy,

yep that's the little fella, it works really well in my Labia estate.

I've got a 256mb stick with 60 tracks at the moment, and it only takes a few mins to change the music using WMPlayer10.

The only problem I find is the position of the cigarette lighter, it means that your hand catches the mp3 gadget when using the handbrake.
