Fabia 1.4 16v 2004 not starting intermittent, no codes?

Featured Replies

Hi all, have a problem with the wifes fabia, its a 2004 1.4 16v think the engine is an AUA 75bhp a few times now it has failed to start, spins over fine, and smells of fuel but does not fire, i dont get any warning lights on the dash, by that i mean nothing to indicate there is a problem. run vcds on it and its not showing any fault codes. if i keep cranking it it eventually starts sluggish then revs up fine.

i have done a search through the vast non start posts on the forum but none seem to have the same symptoms as this. any ideas you can throw my way?

cheers people

Have you checked the coil pack, leads & spark plugs?

You need to check you are getting power/a spark on the coil packs/spark plugs.

If you're not then that would indicate an error with a camshaft sensor or similar.

Have not checked yet, was dark last night so i only ran a scan. would have thought a missfire would have thrown a code up though. Will have to wait for it to fail again to check it. Just thought id post incase someone had similar troubles. strange how the fabia seems to suffer more with stupid faults compared to its polo cousin

I would recommend checking the coolant temp sensor is the upto date version, i.e the green one.

Have had the exact same fault as described in the past on my MK6 Polo, MK5 Polo and my Lupo all had 1.4 engines :)

coolant sensor is still the grey type, i have a green one ready to fit. would that stop it from firing then? or is it thinking its to cold and flooding it maby?

ahhh, green type i have is 4 pin = fail.

I thought that all the original, bad/suspect sensors had black connectors.

I thought a 2004 car would have the later B series of engines.

ye sorry, the engine is a BBZ individual coilpack type. prefix A on the sensor, looking into it there is no green updated sensor. will just have to get another grey one
