Climate control query

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a seemingly simple question that's driving me slightly potty.

Is it possible to have air flow through the windscreen vents without actually having the climate control/air con running?

I get a little misting on the windscreen & try to avoid using the supposedly power/economy sapping climate control... although I do run it occassionally to keep the system healthy.

I would assume if you set the climate control to windscreen then switched the system off it might keep the vents in place?

Don't you just set climate control to direct the air as you want and just turn off the AC part? If it is pre FL I think you just select economy, on my FL you can have the A/C on or off for any of the climate control settings. When you hit fast demist on front screen it automatically puts the A/C on but you can turn off the A/C bit when it does that if you want.

Climate control, i.e. keeping the temp to a set value, doesn't kill you fuel economy it is only when you are running the A/C part.

AC will help clear the mist faster, hence it being automatically selected when you fit the front demist button....

You also need to have the AC running regularly anyway, to save issues caused by lack of running.

Alternatively just select the button to direct the airflow to the bottom of the windscreen, then hit the 'ECON' button (on the pre-FL).

As Wardy says econ button but I find the ac makes little difference. Also again what Wardy says use it otherwise the ac doesn't work properly. I learnt this the hard way in my civic and ended up with no ac for a while before I sold it

You just need to keep it from drying out. I tend to leave mine on all the time, unless I happen to have the windows down.

Turning it off all the time is only likely to make a small percentage difference to an overall tank mileage, if noticeable at all. The HVAC system in the Octy is fairly efficient in the way it runs, especially as it benefits from full climate control if you have the dual-zone system which the majority of owners will have - so it will only cool or heat the airflow if it needs to, in order that it maintains the temp you've set.

the octy a/c compresser runs all the time, circulating the gas. When you hit the a/c auto button it just pumps harder.

The only reason to use the buttons occasionally is to stop bacterial growth in the heat exchanger which causes smells, as it runs all the time seals etc. dont dry out.

The econ button cools air down to the outside temp only , it cant run it to below. ( see handbook)

The air coming out when a/c. is on is dry air which absorbs the moisture on the windscreen qiucker, if not then a/c not working right.
