hi all

you may remember a week or 3 ago i was asking you about clutches and flywheels , dmf or smf etc etc, well i finally went for a nice sachs clutch and smf flywheel kit from darkside developments and all was well, and quiet and smooth for about 1,000 miles until this morning.

i was trundling along minding my own doing about 50mph when suddenly bang, no power, strange flapping like shreaded belt noise coming from up front, oh **** i thought, cambelt??? as if that would'nt have been enough, no one of the con rods has decided to go walkabout and peep through the block, super, not.

anyway i sincerely hope its nothing to do with fitting an smf but hopefully not

the car has 101,000 miles and has every service stamp in the book with apparently counts for nothing and of course its the bxe, which is the pricey one, if u can get hold of one at all.

get rid of that nasty mondeo they said, get a skoda they said, your troubles will be over, hmmm??

anyway having spent £600 on this car already, i'm now looking at spending another big wedge of cash for a new motor, plus fitting etc etc and ive had it a month, marvelous.

ive been told that the bxe is prone to this, anyone???

some have said fit the older engine, it can be modified apparently

and others have said, dont do that, its too much messing about.

any help would be greatly appreciated please, and better still. . . . . anyone have an engine, or know where i can get a decent 1

many thanks

gaz

Have you rung Darkside?

Sounds a bit coincidental to me...

hi.

yeah i looked at this 1, i suppose you just have to trust them that its ok, i phoned darkside, they have for £900 but its done 105k, i thought it was a bit pricey, what u reckon?

I have the BXE engine and mine looks nothing like the one in the picture/advert. I think that's the wrong engine.

Is it possible to fit another engine other than a BXE or is it a major job? I also have a BXE that probably needs replacing.

hi taxiray, im a taxi driver too and have been doing a bit of research into what u speak of as the earlier lumps are alot cheaper than the bxe's and apparently more reliable.

it would appear that everything fits apart from the fact that the cam sensor is in a different position but im told its possible to to machine a hole in the block to solve this problem.

i have darkside developments looking into this as we speak and hopefully if its poss they;re going to do my car for me.

im speaking to them again on monday, so ill let u know.

cheers

What's up with your engine taxiray?

What mileage has it done?

There is a misfire, nothing wrong with the fuel or electronics. mechanic says that it is mechanical, fault is on cylinder 3. I am just waiting for the head to be removed, I have read of many stories of the block being damaged on these engines, I just presumed that all of the blocks were pretty much standard and could be interchanged.
