oooh, look what I've got!

My 3 spoke wheel arrived today from SkodaTeile for my 2011 Superb SE Plus Estate. It currently has a 4 spoke, but I find it a bit uncomfortable. This 3 Spoker is chunkier and should be more comfy without the bottom spokes that I find get in the way a bit..

I've just handed one of those (with the Vrs logo) over to someone as we did a shared order from Skodateile.

Have to reccomend them to anyone wanting Skoda parts as the service is excellent and delivery in just two - three working days!

I wanted one on my pre-FL Ocatavia, but decided it was too much of a risk (and cost with the new airbag I'd need) that it would actually work fully.

Enjoy.

Thanks KBPhoto! It's a fairly plug and play upgrade on my Superb luckily. I changed the wheel on SWMBO's Polo from a nasty plastic stock wheel to a flat bottomed leather Scirocco item recently and she loves it. The top bit of this wheel is essentially the same as the Scirocco/GTI wheel, and the rounded bottom is actually nicer IMO.

Hi hkp

Lovely wheel!

I've just picked up my 61 plate (12/2011) Superb S 1.4TSi. The wheel is decidedly low-rent, and I'm wondering if a wheel like yours is a relatively easy fitting job.

Some questions, which you may or may not have the answer to......

Would wheel like this add radio control functions? - I have the 'Swing' basic CD / radio.

Would the air bag and centre cover swap, or are they different?

Appreciate if you, or anyone else for that matter, could give me some answers

Thanks in anticipation

I like what you're cooking up there!

It's possible a car without MFSW will need a different steering wheel controller. These are normally a plug and play upgrade. AFAIK, all wheels will fit other cars, and all the airbag connectors are the same, as long as the airbag is physically the same size, it will go in.

If I'm not wrong, all Superb II steering wheels use the same airbag?

UPDATE:

I fitted the new wheel tonight. Fitment was fairly simple:

1) Disconnect battery and go and have a cuppa.

2) Come back, switch on ignition to drain any last energy out of the system.

3) Pop off the airbag from behind with a small flathead screwdriver (plenty of guides on the exact procedure on this forum).

4) Unclip main yellow airbag connector and smaller black one at the bottom of the wheel (this is easier if you unhook it from its little home first). Remove airbag and set aside facing upwards.

5) Undo the main spline bit nut holding the wheel on (XZN type) and remove the wheel.

6) Refit the new wheel aligning the marks made on the wheel and on the column spline at the factory. The wheel should now be straight and you can refit the nut.

7) Reconnect airbag loom and MF loom plugs.

8) Push airbag back in, and reconnect battery.

On my car the ESP warning lights came up on the dash. I was ready to clear this with my VCDS cable, but the lights actually went out after a quick test drive. They haven't returned which is good.

I'll take some pics tomorrow in the light, but suffice to say, it looks ace! Really comfy too and a simple upgrade.

Good news that it works and is better for you.

Did you have a 4 spoke MFSW or just a standard 4 spoke? Any pictures of the previous one? What are you going to do with the old one?

I had the 4 spoke MFSW before, so it was really just plug and play. I guess the old one is for sale.. I'll get some pics done and pop in in for sale.

Must be worth about £90 as it is? It has only done 15k miles..

Do the flappy paddles end up working? I have the V6 with the 4 spoke, but miss the chunky rim of my Octy vRS so am thinking I would like this mod. But would also like th epaddles to work.

Cheers

Aah. my car is manual, but I would suggest that if you have DSG the paddles should work subject to being coded up. There may be differences in the wheel controller module, but if you already have MFSW then the controller is bound to be a highline one.

shark tuning Mansfield fit the 3 spoke with paddles for £300 fitted thats what they quoted me early on in the year.but its a long way from Kent

From what I remember from my VW days, the ESP lights should go out once you've moved the steering wheel from lock to lock in both directions - i.e. full left lock and full right lock - might explain why the lights went out after a drive?

Driving slowly in a straight line for about 20-30m usually puts the lights out.
