Knocking from boot area

Featured Replies

Hi All

My 2012 VRS has a rattling noise from the boot/tailgate when I go over a bump.It only does it when both rear wheels hit a bump together but not if it is just one wheel.

I cannot work out if it is some trim or something loose in the tailgate. I have removed the parcel shelf and it still happens and it is not from the spare wheel well and I am sure it is not from underneath the car.I am not sure where to look next. I only know that it mainly happens when the tyres hit the bump together. The metal joints in the road where bridges start and finish are the best example I can think of or where utility companies had dug a trench across the width of the road.

Has anyone had this problem and if so how was it cured.

Anybody got any ideas please.

possible exhaust banging against something?

strut tops loose?

If it was older i would have said rear beam bushes.

Is it possible to replicate with the boot open and sitting/bouncing on the rear end ?

bouncing on the rear end ?

tried that............she didnt like it

It could be the whole tailgate rattling in the latch, try pressing down on your boot from outside the car and listen for the noise it makes, similair?

Open the boot and in each corner you will see a rubber stopper, twist it out so it applies more pressure against the latch, not too far as it makes the boot difficult to shut and would risk damage to the lock and latch over time.

Had the same issue and cured mine by adjusting the boot stops (as abarth_1200 has advised), it applies a bit more pressure so that the lock is held in tension.

Not the usual rear seal bolster thing? That's more of a rattle than a knock.

Remove the jewellery from the dead body in the boot?

Remove the jewellery from the dead body in the boot?

Or get the local council to fix the roads? Brighton is like a ploughed field, and that's just the bits that aren't permanently dug up................

Job done !!

It was the rubber boot stops. All is now quiet at my rear. Have put the dead body back in boot.

Many thanks to everyone
