Aux Socket - Whats it for ?

Featured Replies

Just put a deposit on a 60 plated 1.6TDI Elegance which of course has this socket next to the handbrake.... just what can be plugged into this socket and is there anything else needed to make it work. Ta.

Mp3 input for the stereo. You'll need a cable with a 3.5 mm plug on each end. Couple of quid off ebay

You just need a 35mm jack to 35mm jack cable and anything can be plugged in

+1 What he said. It's position is a bit of PITA if I'm honest, as most folk would IMO want their 'generic MP3 device' to sit somewhere up in front of the gear stick.

errrrrrr........... 3.5mm :giggle:

A 35mm plug would be MASSIVE!!

If you iphone has a 3.5mm headphone output, then don't see any reason why not.

You can do- but you won't be able to change track etc via the headunit or steering wheel mounted controls..... :wall:

Oh well, i guess i will have to choose my playlists very well indeed then, i do have a headphone output. Ta.

to be honest it is easier to burn a CD with plent of MP3's on and whack it in the stereo

Good enough for 400V lol

http://www.johnlewis.com/231387166/Product.aspx?s_kwcid=ppc_pla you can use this as well. Mount your iPhone on your dash securely and you could still change your songs without cables :). 3.5mm cable much cheaper of course :)

This is an option, but i like the idea of all my music in one place, i have the 32gb one and will be changing it to a 64gb version soon. I have coded my cd's in Apple Lossless so the SQ is the best it can be, i would like to keep the encoding this good.

I don't think I've ever used mine, but as other's have said it's in a very awarked position (as is the power outlet for that matter. The whole lot should be put further up the console)

As my car was speced with bluetooth, I just use that to play music off my phone. You don't get to select tracks with the sterring wheel controls, but most of the time I just set it playing in shuffle mode.

yep i was going to do the shuffle option, the car i have bought is used so it does not have the wheel remotes (my 10 year old bmw has !!!), but as long as it can play via the headunit i will just leave the phone on the passenger seat as i travel to work alone anyway.

Our kids like the AUX socket where it is, as they can as fight over who gets to plug in their iPod and control the music.

Because we all know the speed and volume of the music controls the speed of the car!
