Update Engine Management Light

Featured Replies

Last week I reported an engine management light had come up on my Fabia Greenline Diesel [13 months old] and most to respond to my post advised to get it in to be sorted. Skoda Assist attended last sunday and advised the EGR valve was duff. The Assist man was able to upload the data from my car to VAG Germany.

As arranged, took my car to local dealer Monday and didn't get it back till Friday afternoon. Dealers were disputing the fault till I reminded them the data was on the VAG database if they wanted to check. After more exchanges and questioning whether the car had been serviced, 19K + on the clock, so had been serviced once and very soon due a second and I think they were looking for any excuse to opt out. Eventually Skoda 'authorised' them to get the job done!

Then a twist in the tale, Skoda Assist arranged a courtesy car for but only for two days so I was without a car for three days. When I took it up with Skoda Assist last night they offered me £50 for my out of pocket for they say I should have had a car for the duration and how sorry they were. I should have fought for a lot more simply for the misery but decided to accept their offer. The manager at the dealers says this new valve should now ensue I get better returns on my MPG as I have bitterly complained in the past getting a mere 50 MPG and sometimes a little higher. If that is so then this valve has been faulty since new!!!

If any interest to anyone here, the original Skoda Assist man [RAC] said it's not always this valve getting clogged and sticky but there is a KNOWN fault as the spindle gets worn and lose!

I'll keep an eye on my fuel returns over the next weeks. It would be great to report back some eye watering figures but I feel a bit sceptical at the moment, lost my faith in the buggas so to speak.
