1.9tdi Heater blows cold air and then sometimes hot HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, looking for your help, this subject has been covered many times but with no definite answer to the problem. Ok here goes have a Octavia 1.9tdi Elegance with heater blowing cold air all the time when the temp gauge is sitting at 90, if I dip the clutch and rev the heat comes through for awhile then goes cold again, so I decided to change stat and it worked great for a day then the next morning it was back to the same issue so decided to change coolant temp sensor again it worked for about two hours then back to cold, the strange thing is that today the rubber feed pipe from the bottle that goes to the metal pipe that goes into stat housing at one end and the matrix at the other end, the left hand side was piping hot and as the pipe bends round the engine block to the matrix was stone cold then tonight before heading home I had a check of all the pipes and the rubber hose that goes onto the stat housing was hot where as the other half that goes to the bottom of rad was stone cold, this is mind boggling stuff the same hose and pipe one half is hot and the other is cold. Car is not losing coolant nor is there water in oil please help me !!!!!!!!!

In my experience the Octavia has the worst heater of any car I've owned, can't make up its mind whether to blow cold or tepid. Warm air is only possible in the winter during a long, fast drive. That said, I can at least get some heat.

My thought would be to check for a thermostat on the heater itself or perhaps the control switch.

Modern cars are so complicated, personally I would visit a local Vag specialist for some advice first.

Now onto my 3rd Octavia II Estate and the heater has been my main gripe over the 6 years that I've leased (now owned). Don't think there's been a fault, just takes an eternity to heat up and always seems to be a draft in the gearstick area between the seats. First 2 cars had dual climate with the aircon box between the front seats, new one doesnt but same issue!

Asked a work mate who has a superb - no issue for him.

Sorry it this is off topic

  • 1 month later...

The heater on my Pre FL 2008 PD140 seems to work really badly.

I'd like to get to a position where I can see the heater matrix, and point one of those remote infra-red sensors ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180922276730 ) at it to work out if it's a water problem or an air problem.

Where is the heater matrix, is there an easy way to get sight of it?

(please say use VCDS - I don't have one)
