Wall render on bonnet

Featured Replies

Right forum ?

We've got some contractors fitting external insulation to the houses in a partnership thing between local council and one of the energy companies. Right shower of contractors .I won't insult Dom's cowboy builders by calling this lot cowboys -they're worse than that. Wast of time talking to them as they don't speak English, although my next door neighbour (Russian) did manage to make them see sense.

Last night ,after I'd put car on drive, they started to render. With the external lighting, we just drew the curtains and turned up telly. They turned up at 8.30 this morning to ask us to switch off one of the security lights and carried on . First thing to get splashed was front door. Then I noticed some blobs on the bonnet. Any ideas how to get it off without scratching , or is it rub off and respray. I've complained directly to the energy co and asked what they intend to do to rectify.

You wont get it off id imagine!

Heat gun, try heat it up and turn it to a putty substance but watch and dont bubble the paint!

Other wise, sand and paint!

do you have a pic of what sort of size blobs are on there? If they're small enough, use a fingernail to 'ping' em off, IYKWIM :) Then just a bit of polish and buff up.

Also, if it's external render, I'm assuming it's a sand/ cement/ water render, in which case, heating it will only achieve blistering the paint, and hardening the render.

Get a claim in pal, :D

I cant imagine how ****ed off I would be!

Hope you sort it out.

Hmmm. I covered my Fabia in tiny spots of masonry paint- not realising how far it carries- and got it off with Bilt-Hamber clay. I found fingernail (as suggested above) took for ever and left scratches. Depends what the render is, I suppose. Cement, presumably?

What about a jet wash?

On an old car the calipers were shaven down to fit under wheels but the dust wasnt washed off and got rusty and embedded itself in the paint!

I managed to get it off with clay. Took longer to clay that panel than it did the whole car.

I'm thinking that if your car has a good seal coat then it won't be hard to remove as it will have hardened on the wax coating. As mentioned I would try a jet wash to remove it then give the area a polish.

Try Vinegar... I think I remember seeing something about wet concrete on a car before and it coming off ok.

Give me a moment or take a look over on Detailing World.

Yup found this:

If the mix of 50/50 water/vinegar mix does not work, use the distilled vinegar pure strenght on the concrete spots. Saturate a clean kitchen sponge with pure vinegar and hold the sponge over the concrete spots for a few minutes. The acid in the vinegar will help etch and dissolve the concrete. I've use it on my pickup with great results. Rinse the area with water after the vinegar and then reapply wax or sealant to that area.

I know its render... hopefully it will work in a similar way?

The energy company has gotten a letter .

I can see them getting a massive bill from LA,too,as the front door( UPVC and less than a year old) has great big lumps on it. I caught them using a plastic chair to stand on ,yesterday, and they've cracked my plastic garden storage box lid. To call them cowboys is an insult to those Dom investigates.
