Vcds help for a beginner

Featured Replies

Well after years of having vag cars i want the vcds software i can use on my laptop

My current car is a 2005 mk 1 seat leon tdi, id like a system to suit this!

Can anybody help me as im confused with all the different types. Links would be appreciated also

Thanks

There is only one genuine VCDS software - made by Ross Tech.

You'll need a genuine cable (Gendan sell them) to connect laptop to car.

Help me with links. Theres also different interfaces which im clueless about

If you don't know how to search for them online, or know which interface you need, should you be messing around in VCDS?

For gods sake!

Everyone needs to learn. We all start somewhere. Ive had mega modded vag motors i just want to be able to do a scan and find faults for myself rather than seconds guessing parts i require

Also things like auto locks etc

Come on brisky sort it out

Jase, for your car, all you actually need is this interface - http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCKII.html

The KEY-USB/KII-USB will work with non-CANBUS cars like your Leon (and indeed my old one). Unfortunately, Gendan only seem to sell the CANBUS cables now so you might struggle to get hold of this older cable. You might be able to pick one up second hand if you keep your eyes open though, mine cost me £50 five years ago because the original owner was selling up to buy a Mk2 Leon, it's paid for itself several times over in fault scans for me and my mates.

I see and can i order it direct from rosstech over in the states?

My girlfriend has a mk5 golf and she'll no doubt want a shot would the more expensive kit cover both our cars?

Yeah, if you ordered a HEX-USB+CAN (or whatever the model is) then that'll do both Mk4 (non-CANBUS) and Mk5 (CANBUS) platforms.

The HEX-USB+CAN interface works with all diagnostic-capable VAG cars from MY2000 onwards and is the one I would strongly recommend (and have owned for 7 years now). I purchased direct from Ross-Tech.

Yes either get the HEX+CAN or wait for the new (dearer) VCDS-Mobile to be launched next year.

The cheapest supplier is NHN (by about £10) - he is not very active on here as other VAG forums (under the same username) though.

Mine came from ilexa.co.uk (might be .com)

Cornish company and my cable & CD etc came super quick.
