when i start my octavia vrs first thing in a morning it takes like 3 0r 4 attempts to get her started.

after that the rest of the day she is fine starts first time.

i have an engine management light on and have just had a coil pack changed

any help with this would be very much appreciated

Need to get it scanned with vagcom/vcds to be sure. coolant temp sensor will probably be high on the list.

Could also be the early signs of a battery becoming tired and not spinning the starter motor fast enough when everything is cold...

I'm just about to replace my battery because starting was becoming a struggle in cold weather.

If it's battery, (which is the usual culprit, but doesn't match a lit EML??) EuroCarParts.com have 15% off batteries at the moment. You want a Bosch S4 or S5. Elsewhere, the Varta Blue and Silver are the same thing rebadged. I just paid £97 fitted for the most capacious Varta battery available for a petrol Octy.
