noise-resonance

Featured Replies

Hi Just had delivered my new Fabia estate.

Generally pleased and done 180 miles

BUT

a high pitched resonance has occurred and is coming in at about 30 mph plus. So bad it has made my partner have ear ache and feel sick and also made my ears ache. Took back to dealer and their mechanic also has heard it so going back next week.

However reading all the comments it does seem that this car has bad road noise.

Has anybody managed to clear it with say differrnet size wheels, different tyres or sound proofing becuase if not, I will have to bring in the trade standards officer, as the test car we drove did not have this noise.

Shame on the dealer BUT it is totally unbearable!

Colin

Enjoy your new car.

What type of Fabia Estate?

Which tyres?

180 miles and the new tyres are still not really settled yet.

?Have you checked the tyre pressures yourself and adjusted them to suit your use yet?

I would try slightly different pressures within the Recommended Pressure range,

see if it makes a difference.

Read the Owners manual on Running in,

The brakes and pads are brand new and need to wear off a little, that could be one source of noise,

Use the brakes a few times someplace safe, once they are warmed up and scrub them off a little,

slight hand brake on at not too high a speed or for too long and wear the pads in just a little bit.

new tyres tyres noise, just newness generally.

Hopefully no bearings or similar causing a problem, but the car needs a few hundred miles on it to get everything running a little bit smoother.

(a rear window is not just slightly open, is it?

only a mm down is enough to make an annoying noise!)

No gap showing, glass just not fully up, and at the edge of the seal.

good luck with it.

The road noise is awful I must admit. However, has never been excessive where I've had ear ache etc, I fitted 215/40/17 tyres on my car not long ago, the noise level has dropped & ride is noticeably softer even with my car being lowered on eibach springs.

I havernt tried new wheels or anything like that but I'd put it mainly down to the tyres if anything.

Leon.
