Hi, I have an LE Octavia VRS TDI CR and I am an addict!

Featured Replies

Hi there

I've owned my 09 vrs for about 18 months now and been a member on here for a little less. I thought its about time I introduced myself.

After getting a new job that required a lengthier commute I realised my 21 year old Golf just cant cut it and with a heavy heart set out to find a replacement that not only would have to be solid and reliable, but stupidly quicker and more fuel efficient. The mk5 Golf GT Sport was my first choice but I couldn't find much for my money. The Leon FR was next but the boot-space wasn't much to sing and dance about (got a growing family, needs must).

The Occy VRS was the answer. Its a massive step from a mk2 1.6 Golf Driver, which was fun in its own right but lacked any sort of punch I was thirsty for. I love the understated appearance of the VRS that tends to deceive quite a few motorists with how the thing flies. Plus the boot is cavernous... I've never looked back.

I have however come across a few issues that seem to be a common problem for this particular model. The ridiculous amount of time it takes to demist the windows is just baffling;

The drivers footwell is wet, obviously a link to the steamy windows;

and the Limited Edition alloys are just pants. They bend so easily!

I have a couple of things I'd like to consider for the car in future; mainly a cheeky remap. First things first though...I need to check where leaks are coming from!

Cheers!

Hello vRS#483 and welcome along :thumbup:

Yes, the inordinate amount of time for the windows to demist is very annoying although in my case I have no leaks whereas if you sort out your leak (likely to be door seals and / or rear washer pipe which has become split or detached) it will help.

FYI, I've found if you make sure the A/C is off when you park the car the night before and you leave the temp control on 22 and simply direct the heating to the floor it helps.

Hello! I think its safe to say that the door seals are fine. The rear washer is a likely culprit as it had been blocked for quite a while before i got my hands on the car. I just pulled the nozzle off and gave it a deep clean with white vinegar overnight then gave the rear washer a good squirt without the nozzle resulting in a little plug of crap launching across the road!! I'm wondering if this plug had, in the meantime, created enough backed-up pressure to cause the pipe to fail. You wouldn't happen to know the rough location of where to look for this pipe under the dash?? I think while I'm at it I may a well check under the plenum for blocked drainholes; the leak could be from one or a combination of these two. I hope its the blocked drainholes, the washer pipe sounds like a job and a half!!

A long shot!

I had blocked drainholes under battery on passat and also leak around the pollen filter seal which is located under the windscreen (common fault on passat), caused puddle on passenger side footwell. I know this was a passat but maybe the Octy has similar configuration? I've only had my vrs a couple of weeks so not sure of engine layout on Octy. As I say, a long shot - Good Luck!

C'mon the Rovers - another good win today :happy:

Sorry, I'm not sure of the location, do a search and something should turn up as it's been discussed quite a bit.

Hi and welcome aboard.
