Vrs mpg down?

Featured Replies

Hello all hope the weekend is going well... Just a quick question... Could be nothing but rather let the more experienced give some input...

For some reason my vrs has started to drink a bit more than usual... Normally £15 would give me around 90-100 miles but these couple of weeks I've been getting between 75-85 miles... Also yesterday did a trek from Birmingham to Nottingham and back and only seemed to average around 45 mpg at around 70-100mph but 75% of the journey at 80... Is this normal or could something be wrong?

Bit about the car... 180bhp remap with full miltek cat back exhaust with the car on standard parts

Thanks in advance

Is the 45mpg based on what the trip computer says, or on 'actual' consumption?

The price of fuel going up would make £15 of fuel seem less....sorry to point out the obvious

Tire pressures? Mine dropped from 55mpg to 48mpg and my tire pressure had dropped loads

Mpg on diesels suffers in winter due the additives put in the fuel

This is what the trip computer says... Since owning the car I've only ever based fuel consumption on the trip computer, although this may be inaccurate, it's accurate in terms of measuring from the same source

Lol I have taken this into consideration but I'm basing fuel consumption on fuel being at 139.9 for the last month

Checked this as well mate... Especially considering I got four new tyres put on a week ago lol

Did not know this mate, thanks for the new info... Hopefully this is the issue and not my maf sensor or anything :)

That's cheap!! Where are you located?!?!

that fuel price is cheap  , need to get an empty fuel bowser over too there. lol. i've been trying that v-power and last tank refill i got 520miles with 60 left in tank, i've been brimming it using that switch inside the neck, thinking of going back to filling it to the first click, then drive for 100miles and then refilling to first click, seem to be averaging 44-46 mpg per tank fill. car is standard spec. 06 plate.

The reason for my drop in mpg (~10%) was ERG valve

137.7 here too. :)

131 for petrol, almost worth getting the GTI out again! Wheatley ASDA, just off the M40 services at Oxford.

My MPG has dropped from mid 40s (44-46) to very high 30s for a tank. I checked the MAF and it's reading into the thousands when the max reading is meant to be 500. £120ish for a new one too.

Unplugging it makes a difference to power (about 2 seconds off the 40-70 in 4th, so I think it's pretty dead). Runs smoother without it too, less 'pulsing' going through the revs.

I know the readings are different on a VAG to a BMW, but have you checked yours at all?

£60 for a bosch maf sensor from euro car parts with the discount code and buy back they have

Id still get a genuine dealer part one...

Aftermarket sensors and such are pretty crap imo.

The other thing which was broken affecting performance and mpg was the flexi connecting the turbo manifold to the exhaust manifold.
