Cruise control retrofit on 2012 octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all

Wanted to fit cruise control to my 2012 Octavia so i ordered the indicator stalk of ebay. On trying to install the new stalk I've discovered both stalks and slip ring are now a complete unit and the stalk I've bought is completely useless.

I've found the part i need here

My question is will i need a new slip ring and controller unit to get the cruise to work or can i use my original controller and slip ring?

VCDS scan give the following

Does your car have a MFD or maxidot? Mine has the former. Shark retrofitted cruise control for me, replacing the original steering column combi switch (ie double stalk assembly) PN 5K0 953 502L with PN 5K0 953 502N. The existing electronic module for steering column PN 5K0 953 569C is a midline variant and did not need replacing.

According to my info a 549C is midline and should support cruise control.

thanks for that guys, mine has the MFD screen and not the maxi dot, the info has been very useful, just one more question, will i need to replace the slip ring unit or will my original one do?

As said above yours is a midline and should support cruise control.

As per PM

your controller is fine

Sorry for some reason i though the slip ring and controller were two separate units, as i was able to detach the electronics box from the slip ring when i was last in there, thanks for clearing everything up very much appreciated.

on the old system 2004 - 2010

the controller was a box that was on the underside of the steering column

on the newer system the slip ring is the controller
