Not so important to keep running the Fabia system as its allways running anyhow.

Keep an eye on it, you may have a small leak somewhere. Loud noises can also be attributed to to much gas in the system.

But general rule of thumb, if its cold its working..lol. But if your checking it remember the a/c system wil only usually cool down 15 degrees or so below ambient temp. So if its very hot outside its going to struggle.

Really  - if so, what's the button under the heater control marked "AC" that lights up when I press it for???

i think what lummox was refering to was climate control where the air con pump is cutting in and out according to the temp set on control panel.

Jase, with your mileage, it must be almost time for your evaporator temp sensor to be packing up too

I understood the Fabia's system was NOT "climate control" because the temperature isn't monitored throughout the cabin. It's just thermostatic. Hence I'd still appreciate an explanation from Lummox as to the suggestion it's on all the time. I don't use AC much in the winter but try and remember to turn it on occasionally - am I wasting my time or not?

Ive noticed that when the air circulation knob thingy (excuse my not so technical explanation!) is pointed at 0 i.e. off, air still comes through the vents. Maybe this is what Lummox was referring to?

That's when you are moving. It's ram air (and I don't mean sheep farts).
