Which one ?

Featured Replies

At the moment I keep flicking between two cars (if I limit it to skoda ..) I'm at the stage where I need to do a few things to the cupra as its at 45k and 5 1/2 years old.

So do I go for a facelift vrs, I've found a couple with 40-46k on the clock for 10k or do I go for the cheaper 1.8 tsi and pick up an 09/10 plate for around 10k ? I don't really want to spend much more but realise for 2k extra I can have a 6 month old 1.8 tsi. The warranty doesn't bother e too much as I would be changing some of the manufacturers bits. The pro's are the vrs looks nicer both inside and out, the 1.8 .... Well with a map and some tweeks it could be a right street sleeper on a set of wheel trims. The clutch/dmf issue puts me off a little with the vrs (would be petrol) as this is something I'm likely to have changed on the cupra if I keep it. The last thing I want is to buy a vrs only to have to spend 1k on the clutch.

Thoughts ?

A remapped TSi is a awesome machine and plain old standard trim a real street sleeper

the looks you get as you storm by are priceless...

Even standard she is a nimble car and in third from 30 to 70 she really does fly

I am not in the least bit biased!

I'd recommend you test drive both (extensively) then make your mind up. Mind u I don't practice what I preach cause I bought a blackline without a test drive! :giggle:

Joking aside the test drive should be the key

Easier said than done, all the vrs's at my local dealer are diesels :( I've tried going through vindis fleet but they are all diesels too :) Anyhooo I'll try and find some to drive. But the big question is low mileage or one that migh be no better than what I have.

Where are you? My Local dealer Savilles had a 2nd hand petrol vRS a couple of weeks ago in race blue. Dunno any more details than that tho

Cambridgeshire ..... Local dealer is wings, vindis in Cambridge have both .... It's just an hour away. I'd go through skoda fleet but everything is diesel :)

I'd be lost without it :) everything tells me to go VRS .....

Like I said earlier the test drive will be the key. My old 1.4 SE Plus is probably a similar drive to the 1.8 and the difference in the ride and handling is quite pronounced with the vRS being the drivers car offering a firmer ride with lower suspension, better brakes & better handling. where as the 1.8 will be a more 'comfy' ride with handling being a more rounded experience. Not all 1.8s have ESPon them either. So it's not just the engine that's different. Drive em both then make your mind up. Your heart will want the vRS. I have no regrets buying 1even if it is an oiler :-)
