Finally gone and done it.....

Featured Replies

Well, I've known my vRS for nearly 5 years of its life, me owning it for 18 months..... I've finally booked it in for a remap!

Booked it in for a Shark map at AP Automotive in Telford on Saturday, after hearing very good things from DanHam.

Can't wait!!

EGR is being removed at the same time.

Only downside is that I'm having to cancel my insurance policy half way through because my current insurers won't insure ANY mods it turns out.... Oh well, if you do something do it right...!

Awesome mate! You won't regret it! You'll practically drive past my house on the way there too! Tell Ant I sent you! :D

Ants car is awesome! Ask him to take you for a spin! (its bloody fast!!) - Stage 3 MK5 GTI Golf! Stunning motor!

I really wish I removed my EGR & cat before the remap lol!

Sounds good mate... keep us posted on how it goes! I'd be interested in hearing how much difference you feel. I'd love to do the same on mine too!

Well done for making it all legal too! Top man!!

Well if you're about on Saturday then I'll be there at midday.

Aye I bet his motor is quick being a stage 3 jobbie!

The EGR has had a fault code up for a while now anyway - so I'll be buying a Darkside blank soon and fitting that. Shame the BLT ones are so expensive! Need to clean the inlet out then - a job that I am NOT looking forward to!!

I'll be keeping the cat for now though. Although a Piper non-silenced system will be on the way next :-)

Thanks mate, I will indeed keep everyone posted! Although I'm sure everyone's heard it all before ha ha! Can't believe I haven't had it done yet to be honest....

Cheers for that comment mate - I don't fancy having a smash and then not having the insurance pay out. My current insurers won't even insure the coilovers that I'm in the process of fitting!! So bugger em.... I'll be losing 6 months no claims bonus, but I'm not going to wait 6 months before I can fit the suspension or get a remap!!!

Good work keeping it above board dude!

I had to canx a policy once due to mods, but only because the broker deemed ANY mod as an unacceptable risk.. Including changing the bulbs to non-Skoda parts (Halfords). Words escaped me. Quite rude ones at that.

Ha ha yeah I bet mate!

Well.... for anyone worries about insuring mods, it may not be too bad. Just had a quote emailed to me off Adrian Flux, & to insure my car fully comp with coilovers, remap and exhaust system, they only want £40 more than my current policy has cost me!!!

I must be getting old or something!!

I'm working Saturday 8-4 sadly or I'd have come along! Good choice on the Piper cat back, I've a mufflerectomy for now and it sounds very good :)

Ah never mind mate. We can arrange a meeting some other time soon.

Get a Piper system bought lad ;-) You can see what you think of mine before you buy if you want...

I'll be going for the down pipe first, then I'll decide if I need the silenced system or not :)

It would be great to hear yours before hand though! Just a day till your remap ;)

I know mate can't wait!! I hope it's not raining on the way back so I get chance to test it properly ;-)

Just had some good news as well - my exhaust was dispatched yesterday and should be with me today! Fair play I only ordered it yesterday morning!!!

Blimey thats decent turn around! Rain is not fun with the remap and trying to put power down in the first 3 gears lol!

Have to get it fitted tonight then ;)

Yeah I'm well impressed! As long as I don't miss the delivery this morning... :-/ Glad I only work half days on a Friday.

Yeah it's bad enough in a standard car when it comes on boost suddenly in 2nd... let alone with another 35bhp on top! Hopefully the smooth map will be much easier to live with :-)

I'm fitting the front coilovers today after work! Fitted the rears last weekend & have been driving round with the car looking like it's going to take off all week ha ha! I'll fit it tonight if I get time - off out later.... Damn these social gatherings happening at the most inconvenient time!!!

What i noticed was due to the delivery of power in a massive lump, the standard map actually felt quicker at that point but as soon as you rev it hard thats when you will feel the difference! To save your clutch always make sure your at around 2,200 rpm before flooring it :)

Which coilies have you gone for? Hopefully should spot you about soon, our cars are going to be near identical ;)

Cheers for the advice! I don't fancy replacing a clutch as well at the minute.... An updated clutch/DMF is on my list of 'to do's' though. I'm not going for a SMF as I couldn't be living with the rattling, plus I'm not planning any more than a hybrid and 220bhp.

Ha ha I will try to differ it somehow I promise!! I've got a few ideas in the pipeline, and the alloys I want I haven't yet seen on a vRS & should really suit our car I'd say.... ;-)

As for suspension I've just got some cheap JOM's for now. I'm planning to uprate them with Weitec's or similar in the near future. They're just to get me started & were a good price...
