Steering Problem

Featured Replies

Hello my friends.

I would be very grateful with a little of you expertise..!!!

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i cant seemm to find any info,

My steering on my Octy Vrs 2002 seem to have a lot of play, and also seems to be drifting, Quite scary when driving at high speeds.

Also! my other problem is that when i am performing a "hill start", just before i am about to fully release my clutch and the clutch is taking all the stress of the release, i notice a clunk or click sound coming from my front drivers side, not sure if it’s the wheel or engine bay.

Could this be an engine mount bush damaged????

I’d really like some pointers on what i can check or it could be

Cheers

Drew

I'd start by checking the "dogbone" engine steady; the name is descriptive of the part. if it's really FUBAR, it could cause all your reported symptoms.

Vague steering could be down to buggered wishbones?

how do i check Dogbone, am i right in saying, i just need to see how much the engine rocks when i press the accelerator and see if it moves?

thesquiff - yes, but the same is true of the dogbone, which is easier to check and cheaper to replace.

drew - pretty much yes, but in bad cases you'll can shunt the engine (not just the plastic cover) by hand.

Iv not had chance to look at it yet, as its been raining cats and dogs, "or more like elephants and bears",

Iv been looking at getting a new bush kit all round for it as i want to sort it out as im looking at putting it up for sale soon,

So bush kit it might be.

Cheers
