Raced my mates Scooby classic

Featured Replies

And got beaten - a lot. :D

His car is mildly modded to around 240hp and my Fabia is pretty standard. We raced from 30 mph upwards and it was all over in a matter of seconds. I could just hear him hitting the limiter in 4th before he disapeared out of site - lol.

However i have chased a bug eye before - looked standard and managed to keep with him to <100mph and then push him through the 'twisties'.

Not sure why there is a massive difference in performance, but i will not take a classic on in a rush - lol.

The "classic" is lighter than the newier bugeye. It also has more power, though good old chris will confirm this for sure

Almost right, Mike ;) The classic UK turbo was 208-215bhp as standard, but weighs less than the Fabia vRS! The newer bug-eye and blob-eye are slightly heavier, and I think have 215-225bhp as standard. :D Obviously Jap imports and special editions add to the confusion.......

Chris

Dont try racing a chipped 1.8T Ibiza FR then... 200k lighter than the vRS and with about 85 bhp more as standard. Not pretty...

I raced a standard UK turbo classic shaped scoob through Milton Keynes. Apparently he looked a little frustrated at being wasted by a standard looking Skoda Estate.

Ah, Milton Keynes. Has anyone ever managed to drive through that town, all the way, in a sane, sensible fashion? It must be the roundabouts......;)

Phil

stupid stupid roundabouts everywhere

my mates impreza couldn't keep up with me when mine was standard, then again he does drive a sport :o

p.s i need to know how many models they made.

From memory, you missed off "bog standard classic Subaru Impreza WRX (Jap version of UK turbo)", Impreza STi 1-3, STi 22B-UK, STi-Type RA, UK300 (and UK300+PPP) and also the S201.... oh and the 1.6GL (later 1.6 TS), 2.0 GX (later Sport) ;)

Chris

Oh, and the V-limited editions

I found a couple of links for tha Jap spec cars.... Classic, Bugeye ... the UK cars were simpler as they were only UK turbo and special editions until the bugeye when the STi was introduced.... :D

There are a few here showing various perforance figures. I think the Spec C Ra sti6 ?!?1 is the fastest puppy to date - but not sure?

C spec 2.5 turbo from Litchfield....is apparently rather quick.

The RA has the close stacked ratios so sprinting it's quick, but top end is lower than the normal Type-R I think. :) As far as fastest to date, I think the WR1 or Type-25 may take that crown, although the Type-25 is not an officially Subaru product and is a Litchfield Imports special and has made a couple of appearances in Evo Magazine :D Bugeye and blobeye's also have better handling due to having a stiffer chassis and better suspension set up, as well as big brakes, so they may be faster in real terms, despite being a little heavier.......

Sure is - here :D

Yep - that is the daddy - however i would have a 996 GT3 [RS] / M3 CSL over the type 25 though. How much are they ?!??!

I assume un-insurable aswel ?

Saw a WR1 yesterday...very nice! :D

Think they're about 30k new - I don't know if there are any 2nd hand ones available as yet..... should be insurable - I did a quote for a WR1 for me which is slightly less power and that was a grand for 27 y/o male with 5 years NCD and no accidents/convictions. :D

If you want an interesting read, I'll see if I can find the Evo article where they pitched it against some exotic machinery.......

Seen a couple round Winchester way (and been overtaken by one! ) Still not sure on the colour lol! Prefer the proper Subaru blue to the light blue

WR1 is easier to insure than a WRX STI PPP, as the WR1 is a standard car with PPP power. I asume the Type 25 is a slightly modified version of something else ?!?!

Ah I see what you're saying about the insurance. Yeah, the Type-25 is a no-holes barred STi Spec C tuned by PowerStation so it has the 2.5l boxer from the US STi with a big fat hybrid turbo slapped on for good measure. The handling has been "sorted" by PowerStation too, as well as the brakes and aerodynamics. I don't know what modding potential there is left with it ;)

I also notice from the spec sheet that the OTR price of 35k includes a built in Speed Camera detection system!
