Removing plastic undertray - how?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Unfortunately, I caught the plastic undertray which runs the length of my Superb V6 Combi on a low brick wall. It has been cracked at the front and a couple of the lugs which secure it have been torn through the mounting holes. i need to remove the tray, or at least drop down the front right section, to fix the cracks in it and resecure it..

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic lugs without damaging them? Are they screw-off or a press fit or something else?

I need to go on a long work trip on Monday morning so i want to fix it asap.

Hope someone can help.

Cheers

Hi

Not a direct answer to your question - but...

I caught part of the undertray on a vicious speed hump at the entrance to a French campsite in August. This had torn the undertray fixing from the lug and thus damaged the fixing, although the lug was still in position. I pushed the undertray back over the lug and secured it with a jubilee clip around the protuding part of the lug. This 'temporary' solution has held for 3 months and 4k miles. Will sort it properly at the next service!

Hope this might help in your case!

Cheers

Thanks guys

In the stong light of day, and perhaps subsiding anger at my cockup with the low wall after having the car only a week. I was able to remove one plastic nut with collar, put the tray back in position and then thread the collared nut back on. Fixed for time being. There is a break about 4 inches long in the tray at the front, and the hole for the mount has been torn. Also one threaded srew and plastic nut has been broken off and is gone. The two tears can be fixed with plastic weld or epoxy etc, not sure what I will do about the missing stud. There is also a solid ding in the bottom of the sill and the underseal is missing. Can't see from beside the car. Whew. Rust isn't an issue here so may leave it, or if I get enthusiastic I may fix it properly.

I hate the first ding in any car!
