Kenwood DNX521DAB

Featured Replies

I'm having my Amundsen+ replaced with the new Kenwood DNX521DAB unit - has anyone got this?

I'm wondering if I'll be able to retain my steering wheel control for volume/track select, plus rear parking sensor display (and climate control display which was disabled on the Amundsen+ for some reason).

The system will allow display of rear sensors and climate, along with volume controls.

Thanks - so will it also allow me to select CD tracks and tuner presets from the multi-function steering wheel? And will it still have the compass direction of travel on the MaxiDot whenever the head unit is on (W/NE/SW etc)? And is there a clock display when it's off (Like the Amundsen)?

Just had a check and full use of the MFSW works with the unit apart from scrolling through the phone book.

Clock, I would have thought so!

Not sure why you'd wanna do this having (possibly - not sure if you've bought the car new or used) spent hundreds having Amundsen put on the car to then spend a grand putting a non OEM sound system in it that does very little more.

Sorry if it were me I'd be cutting my losses, sticking with the Amundsen and getting myself a decent Tom Tom or Garmin and using the saving to fund live services; cheaper and no doubt a better nav solution

I have the older previous system in my fabia Monte Carlo it was fitted by the previous owner to replace a swing And i gota say it seems a preety good system, but id have to agree why spec/have an Amunsden then replace with this :/

On my monte i loose the MDI (which is a neater soloution for my iphone) but i do gain Sat Nav and bluetooth, both of which are avalible with an amundsden.

Ha ha my question was gonna be do you loose MDI connection? I'd love to put something like this in but I like my MDI too much.

Is that the Kenwood 5H1T-H3AD-UN1T that is available? Lol ;-)

I have a couple of questions regarding the Kenwood DNX521DAB which the dealer just installed -

When making a phone call, is it possible to hear confirmation tones with each number I press on the screen? Mine is silent when I enter a phone number to call...

Also, as I cannot access the rear USB socket because the dealer hardwired the iPod cable through the glove box, can I update the unit's firmware from an SD card?

I have the Amundsen+ in mine. It's a dreadful, useless piece of tat in all honesty. I fully understand why you'd want to swap it out but also understand the comment that you could get a really good TomTom for £150 which is what I'd personally do.
