Rear Bumper Removal and Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Hi guys, thinking about getting my rear bumper sorted out and was hoping while its off to fit some parking sensors.

Ive been searching for a how to for this job as it must have been done a few times before, but i keep coming across estate bumper removal, i have a vrs hatch, is it a similar job.

Any recommendations for parking sensors, prefferably ready painted, just a plug in job. Will splicing into the reverse bulb wiring cause a bulb out warning?

Removing the hatchback bumper will be almost the same as the estate. I bought a kit off of ebay ready painted for the wife's Fabia and they are OK and not too expensive, but they don't communicate to the radio display.

Breaking into the reversing wire doesn't affect the bulb out system as you are only taking a feed from the wire to the reversing lights.

I have the standard stream unit in my octy so was just expecting the sonar beeps.

So a couple bolts and trim to remove the bumper, ill have a proper look at that towbar fitting thread for more info.

Thanks for you speedy help.

Any links to the ones you have?

I have the standard stream unit in my octy so was just expecting the sonar beeps.

The Stream MP3 unit I had did show the graphic of front & rear sensors. Obviously not as pretty or detailed as on a Bolero or Comumbus, but it was there.

This was with a proper retro-fit kit with Skoda sensors & controller though. And thus needs wires running under the door sill trim to the fuseboard and to the CAN Gateway as well.

A personal opinion, but I'd do this again rather than splice into lighting wires (which I have also done).

This is the link to my post of fitting sensors to the Fabia, can't remember which ebay seller I bought the parts from, but the paint match was spot on.

Ok now I want factory sensors so I can link them up to my stream head unit.

I had a look on skodaparts but can't find them, I reckon they will be expensive if I call up my dealer, anyone else know where to fit ones that will work with the factory hu?

Have a look on Skodateile.cz

Good prices & good service.

Your link didn't bring up anything on my computer...

You'll need these two bits of kit:

Wiring loom, buzzer & controller;

Sensors and loom for rear.

The controller is located above the rear wheel arch under the carpet trim;

The buzzer is at the base of the B-Pillar on the passenger side;

The sensors in the rear bumper (marks should be in place on the inside of the bumper showing where to locate them (18mm hole);

The wires connect to the CAN gateway and to the fuse board (switched live) and to an earthing point (several in the boot area under the trim).

Although its a long job, none of it is especially difficult (with the exception of wiring into the CAN Gateway - you need to be quite good at soldering in small spaces) and does result in OE integration of the parking sensors (i.e. OPS and opposed to just PDC).

The listing on Skodateile states that it works with a Stream.

My experience also supports that it does and also with a relatively new (2010) Columbus as I have had it wirking with both HU's in my '07 Octavia.

Foxy has sold his sensors according to his post in the marketplace. Thanks for the heads up though
