Bet no one has ever had this break on their Fabia....

Featured Replies

Last week I noticed that my rear washer wasnt spraying properly - it was very weak.

So, I popped the boot & noticed a nice pool of screen washer & load of drips eminating from the pastic trim - ahh no problem - the hose has popped off slightly at the motor, this has happened before about 5 years ago.

So, I popped the plastic boot lining off & checked the connector - it was ok - very odd. So, I got my son to press the screen washer stalk while I looked on & the screen wash pee'ed out from the center of the angled pipe connector on the wiper motor - what was going on??

So, I stripped the motor off & found this....

The Pipe leading through the collar for the wiper blade has snapped. No idea how this has happened!!

The really pain though is that I now need a brand new rear wiper motor & housing as you cant get spares for just my broken thing - I need the entire kit!

Scrap yard job that! Haha

Yeah, it happened on my fabia. IIRC it was a known fault on the earlier models and a fix kit was available at one stage.

I spent £80 odd on a new wiper motor assembly.

De-wiper it. Bosh, job done. :D I'd have given you mine if I still had it.

Found a second hand motor assembly on ebay for £28 inc delivery. I'm ok with that.

If theres a repair kit going I'll see if I can fix mine & ebay it to recrupe some costs.

when i got my fabia that was broken

Known(ish) fault: It corrodes, siezes on the spindle and rips itself apart.

Damn. When you think something special has happened to you, people come along just to point out you're not so special after all. Lol!

Got a repair kit from an audi spares place it was the same part no as the one some skoda stealers want £30+ for.

I payed £22 but still not worth it....

Just following this thread up.

Rang around a few Audi/VW dealership & asked how much a repair kit was (8L0 998 711) & was quoted around £45+ Was told the cost to them to buy them in was £29 so they wouldnt dream of selling it less than £40!

So, I've decided to buy a second hand motor unit of ebay. Are the whole units the same as the ones fitted to VW Golf MK4 (98-03)?

Theres a guy selling his VW Golf MK4 one for £27 inc delivery. It looks the same but rather be safe than sorry!

Mine did exactly the same and filled the boot trim and lock with rusty water! Couldn't open boot as electrics were full of water. Had to climb through back seats and pull trim off and flick the lever to get in after I dried all the electrics off came the wiper motor, 50p bung and was all fixed :) Looks better and for the price of the repair kits I can live with the small loss of practicality.

No can do - I really like having a rear wiper. I think having a clear rear window can be a difference between having an accident or not. (not saying people should have a rear wiper - i just prefer one)

Yer I can see your point. I guess I'm used to driving my mini for years without one. Plus my cars get cleaned weekly normally so hardly have time to get dirty! Always have glass cleaner in the boot anyhow and a few coats of rain-x keep the water running off nicely :)

isn't it a paradox, one of the most common mods on old skool Mini's is fitting a rear wiper, yet loads of hatch owners de-wiper :D I'm after a new one myself, the washer jet started turning in unison with the wiper. Some days I think it's cool, others I wish it went straight up, as it should!

This happened to mine earlier in the year. Was thinking of putting a bung in the hole, but instead bought a repair kit, think it was about £30

where are you guys buying these repair kits for less than £30?? Have they dramatically increased in price all of a sudden!!

Just had a look on eBay , there are 2 kits on there, about £48 each. See what you mean, they have shot up in price. Have you tried the dealers?

I had a Bora that did that, off to the scrappy for a new wiper mechanism, didn't buy a motor though.

Try car transplants I paid £30 for the whole mechanism, arms rods etc

Gonna go for the whole unit as I can get one from ebay for less than £30. Just gotta be sure that they are the same as a VW Golf MK4 (98-03)
