We contacted my insurance company about changing to steel wheels and 195/55/r15 winter tyres to make sure it was allowed.

To be told not allowed to change tryes for different size any modifocation of this type would make it so they cant insure the vehicle. Madness

So now I only have the option of fitting winter tyres to my alloys which to be honest dont want to do, the advantage of changing to steel wheels was my alloys are safe for the winter and also the slightly thinner tyre would perform better in the snow. Also 195/55r15 are much cheaper winter tyres compared to the 205/40r17 and would save on cost of changing them again as can simpley bolt on summer wheels and tyres when need be instead of a trip to the tyre shop.

Grrrr

They were a pain to get them to accept my no claims proof and now this, never again will I be tempted to use this company.

name and shame. what company is it because i cant believe they dont want you to be safe during the winter.

You are allowed to change to any wheels that are a dealer option on your model/edition.

Are steel 195/55r15s available as a dealer option on your model/edition?.

quotemehappy is the company, been a nightmare from the start to be honest and only been with them for 3 weeks.

Well thats not what they have told me, they have said any change to tyre size and the vehicle would be uninsurable with them.

I had already in my first contact with them explained the size is a manufactuer standard size for the SE (Mine is Monte Carlo) and recommended size for winter tyres but they were not intrested unfortunatly.

Madness, I want to make my vehicle safer for winter driving, meaning less likely to claim on their insurance yet they say no.

The telephone droids are useless sometimes :(

I'd write to them, stating that you want to change to the winter wheels/tyres recommended by the manufacturer.

Can't you swap insurer without losing out if you've only been with them for three weeks?

They are an online company only so only means of contact with them is via their website contact form, unless its to make a claim.

£50 cancelation if cancelled within the first 14 days, god knows what it would cost me now probley half my years premiums going off the rest of their service.

I will have to unfortunatly just put up with it this year but never again will I have insurance with quotemehappy, yeah they were £50 a year cheaper than anybody else I could find but also the worst insurance company I have ever had the displesure of using.

Quotemehappy are a trading name of Aviva, listed on there that state they won't charge for winter tyres.

Actually phone Aviva, rather than their trading name, and point that out to them.

Problem is they are saying fitting winter tyres is fine, its the fact I want to use 15" steel wheels that's the issue.

As long as I stick the standard size tyre to the car they are happy, but I don't really want to fit winter tyres to my 17" alloys it's a pain to keep swapping them, still means my alloys are in danger of getting damaged and far more expensive for a less effective result.

Thinner tyres work better in the snow, so thinner tyres make sense when adding winter tyres. Its even a standard size for a different spec Fabia, just not the Monte I own.

Just find it really annoying that fitting thinner, safer, cheaper to replace if damaged wheels means they are not even prepared to insure me, no mention of raised premiums which I could deal with still annoying but to be told simply no they cant insure the vehicle in that situation is ridiculous.

If they're a size recommended by Skoda, then they'll be fine.

What sizes does it say on your fuel flap?

  • Author

The fuel cap has multiple sizes.

185/60R15

195/55R15

205/45R16

205/40R17

I think that's right.

Mine actually come with the 17", it's all well and good just saying its ok, but until I have it in writing from them am not prepared to do the change. If they are this much of a pain now imagine when it comes to claiming god forbid I need to. just another thing they can say to get out of paying like insurance companies do.

I just binned my insurance - online firm. I could never access the online account, as they entered my email address incorrectly. I had moved about a bit and was covered, just couldn't easily do things like change the address on the policy and had to keep phoning them (there is always a customer service number - has to be).

I eventually said (with 3 months to go, but only one premium, as it was a 12 months for 10 months thing) I wanted to cancel - that'll be £75. I went ballistic, as only a tired, sleep deprived father can. The customer services rep was really good - helped me out, suggested I stick with, putin a complaint and don't renew.

I got £25 quid for the calls from their complaints department and the renewal quote was double this year's premium (surprisingly...).

When I phoned to cancel the policy (as in not renew) and they asked why, I replied "because you're a rip off and impossible to contact". Their reply "thanks for your custom, the cancellation will be in the post". No hard sell, can we beat your alternate quote etc.

I am never going online insurance again.

I sure that the spare in my boot is a steel that size,so fitting 4 shouldn't be an issue

Just renewed my insurance last week too. Paid less than £250 - is that good?

The spare in the boot is a limited to 50mph factory fitted.

Hello John,

Thank you for your email.

I have investigated this and unfortunately we will not be able to cover you if the tyre size is different.

Please accept my apology for the inconvenience caused. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.

Thank you,

Quotemeunhappy.... How ridiculous. You better not have the tyres slightly under-inflated.

Amen to that, my current insurer doesn't even do online quotes and they have been the best I've used by a mile. Also someone on the end of the phone, always go out of there way to help and allows different size wheels as long as recommended by the manufacturer!
