Would you swap?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I need the wisdom of the Brisky forum.

My brother is looking at a Fabia vRS, he has someone who wants to swap theirs for his B5 Passat.

Would it be wise to swap a 53 plate VW Passat Sport (belts done, new clutch and gearbox 97k miles) PD130 remapped for a 55 plate vRS that's had belts done and recent service and covered 125k miles.

Opinions and comments please :)

Thanks

Personally:

Better the devil you know.

Well a quick look at autotrader says passat is worth about £2000-£2500 and the fabia between £3000-£3500 so yeah, if I wanted a Fabia. I`d ask questions as to why someone wanted to swap a car worth more than mine for a straight swap tho

Apparently he needs a bigger car as there's a baby on its way.

Whats the mileage on the passat? Is it petrol or diesel?

legit reason.

though I would still be apprehensive.

Is the fabia modified at all?

Id swap

As per my OP 97K and it's a PD130 therefor it's a Diesel.

Personally, provided the Fab has been looked after well (common faults guides should be looked at and checked over) then i'd say as long as the trade down in size isn't an issue then go for it.

However if you can't prove it's had everything it needs done to it via receipts then i'd personally be a little wary.
