Discounts on VRS and anyone done big miles yet?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if dealers could still be convinced to give discounts on the VRS? I know a lot of people bought when it was on the VAT free scheme but anyone secured a good discount since. I like the estate but the thick end of 18K with a few options makes it beyond my league at that money.

Also these cars are looking attractive secondhand as they don't seem to gold their value like the mk1 did/does. However I am still lairy of that engine and dsg being a moneypit longterm. Has anyone done a 100K plus in one yet?

To be honest you can get an Octy vRS Blackline for less, that's where my money would be going.

Mine has done 26k and had a new engine.

54,000 mile Hatch on Autotrader now that will probably be available for £8,000,

& 60 plate Estates will be available possibly for £10,500 - £11,000 with lots less mileage.

Plenty around the Trade all over the country.

The oldest cars should still have at least 6 months of the original warranty on them & second hand Skoda Dealerships should get a good Used Car Warranty.

Some for sale will have had replacement Engines or Major Engine work & should be fine, & still have a Warranty.

I can not imagine there are many around & about that have done over 20,000 miles a year.

You can never know how cars are after 3 years old untill the first ones that were sold reach 3 years old.

All a bit of a lottery,

but MK 2 vRS's are good fun, & there are plenty of good ones around.

VAT free deal is still on...

They have not held the money because loads were sold with around 20 percent off, so baring that in mind prices seem to doing OK.

Only those that could not wait and paid full price got stuffed.

I've wondered the same myself on the discount front. Bought ours VAT free and I know I'd not have touched it if I was having to pay anywhere near list regardless of how good it was, 18.5k for a Fabia estate....don't think so. With 20% off made a lot of sense.

Actually given that the VAT deal ran for quite a while and was responsible for an influx of sales I think used prices are holding up pretty solidly. My local dealer has a couple of newish hatches for 12-13k which given people possibly only paid 14-15 for them isn't a bad loss.

Estates however are pretty rare, don't see many around, not like the hatches which frankly have started to become rather 2 a penny. You' definitely be best off buying a nearly new hatch.

Regarding reliability......been disappointed with ours. No major mechanical dramas, doesnt seem to use oil but has had to undergo some daft warranty repairs, broken handbrake gaiter (from new), new b-pillar vinyl wraps that are peeling again, 4 new alloys care of corrosion and same thing starting again (avoid the dark chromes like the plague!), now one of the front washer jets has blocked and there's a knocking from the front right corner. They're well bolted together enough but don't be fooled into thinking Skoda is the uber-reliable branch of the VAG group as its not true.

As for big mileage on a 1.4 twincharger...so long as its been well looked after and serviced regularly with the right oil no reason it should be a nightmare.....I'd always be a bit worried about the turbo or supercharger packing up or that it might develop a love for oil at some point

Not had a single issue with my 61 estate.

Saw one the other day on 32k... had melted the electrode off one of the spark plugs :S

41,000 faultess miles so far :) a skoda mastertech said the DSG 7 is the most reliable one yet, I wouldn't worry too much about miles if it's a good one, I may keep mine for a long time :)

I was not sure if the VAT free offer was still on as it is not listed on the site. I have driven one of these and love it and if my circumstances change next year one of these might be on the cards. I love the estate as a Q car and I read it is lighter and faster too (no heavy ballast in the rear). I am worried however about the tech on this engine and have heard mixed reports on the engine reliability get a good one and it is amazing but get a bad one and it is disastrous. Luckily these have been fixed under warranty but if it all went peat shaped out of warranty I dread to think...I would also look at an Octy Vrs petrol as a diesel just does not make sense for me anymore.

Might just run my diesel into the ground as I know the mark 1 fab's engine is good for 250K plus ;) (mine is probably one of the only non modded cars out there I should think but I do miss petrol top end )

Ask a dealer, it's still on. :)

Did 74k in the Scirocco (1.4TFSI + DSG7) and the only problem was VW's fault by fitting the wrong spark plugs come service time...6 times (before they spotted the error in their parts ordering system).. 14.5k on the vRS in 4 months so far and apart from the fact its had an oil change already (4 litres...), nothing wrong.

Thanks 4 replies guys@ boss i meant the fab vrs is not on vat free offer

list on Skoda site anymore but i rang local dealer who said they would do it on the FabVRS. Was surprised the blackline is VAT free but there is a brand new Octy out soon. We will see what happens in new year...

New Octy??

Rapid looks like the Octavia from afar but is, I believe, based on the Fabia platform and sizewise fits between Fabia and Octavia.

Now if they do a Rapid vRS (soon, please!), I would be very interested.. Had a quick peek round a normal Rapid at the dealers last week and I like what I see...was a 1.2 105PS version. I'd possibly consider a 1.4 122PS TSI as that moved the Octavia with ease...

New Octy is due next year, with new Fabia and facelifted Yeti not far behind...

This is why they have the VAT free deals on the Octy and Fabia running still, including the VRS models.

Keep the sales up before the new models arrive.

54,000 mile Hatch on Autotrader now that will probably be available for £8,000

This car is the one at toyota Bristol that I referred to in my 'anyone know NU60' thread.

It's had a failed DSG, has an unrectified 'high oil consumption' issue, had a cooling system fault that the owner tried to 'fix' with a bottle of Rad-Weld, had a missfire issue due to servcing garage fitting wrong spark plugs, and was only ever serviced at a back street garage (not skoda).....

........in addition, the rear bumper is chipped to hell due to a dog climbing in and out, why a dog, cos it stinks of dogs in the car!

Also, the roof is scratched and needs paint and all four wheels need refurbishing.

I was close to offering £8k based on it's cosmetic condition, but ran away when the supplying skoda dealer told me about the catalogue of faults :(

this car is a dog that smells like one (literally)..... don't let the dealer convince you different !!!

Well done on the heads up

Apparently the rapid is poorly built ? & doesn't look good from the hind quarters

Interested in your comment on the new Fabia - get what car now and then and its not listed in the 'upcoming' models that normally span next 12 months. Do you know when its due (roughly) of course ?

when we did the factory tour in september they showed us where the new fabia will be built, but there were no production lines or robots in place yet... they did say 2013 though!

Late 2013 or Spring 2014 I believe, so not that far away in reality.

Thanks. Interesting. Lets hope it gonna be good....
