flat bottom steering wheel

Featured Replies

drove my sons new seat leon fr yesterday and loved his flat bottom steering wheel, when looking closely ive noticed that the seat and skoda air-bag look the same, now iam thinking this will fit but my question is will the steering wheel controls code in as this would be a great up-grade,any ideas lads

They should do as I imagine that there are numerous common parts across the VAG range.

Might need a newer steering controller in your Skoda though!

I believe Nick P has VW flat bottom steering wheel on his VRS.

My Gti had the flat bottom wheel - can't see the point really - I prefer a round wheel.

:)

I thought flat bottomed steering wheels were for people with fat thighs :giggle:

good question about the round wheel, why do all performance cars have a flat bottom wheel,f1 cars, rally cars etc,now i no the octavia is none of these but the flat bottom wheel is so much better than whats on,well thats my opinion

The flat bottom is normally to allow greater clearance for your knees in confined spaces but that is only relevant in race cars with quick racks (ie you don't often need to rotate the wheel fully).

On a road car it's purely cosmetic IMO.

It's a trend thing at the moment I think. I don't particularly like them either.

Their genuine use is as Rob mentions above, which isn't really applicable in any of the VAG products they're fitted to!

But they will fit if you want one. Audi TT version, Mk6 Golf etc. Not sure about the airbag though. Think the ones I've seen fitted have retained the original unit. Not sure if that's because the wheel came as a whole unit though.

The Standard vrs wheel is huge though its like driving a bus,

A bus?! Come on.

Never found it an issue with my pre-FL vRS. But I do prefer the FL vRS one I have fitted now - not sure if it's any smaller though...

Obviously I must have fat thighs then. I would like to drop the wheel a tadge so I can see the gauges better, but if I do then I can't get in or out especially in tight spaces. The FBSW would be an ideal solution.
