Yes i maybe have opened a can of worms here but i've tried searching and its brought up no answers.

anyways, does any one know of any insurers what would allow me to drive other cars third party basis? bear in mind i will be 21 on my renewal, i know insurers have been changing it but a friend of mine is with co-op and has this advantage.

Only place I found was Quinn who are now bust. Everyone else its well into the 20's. Maybe try posting in the general for a better response.

You'll struggle to find it, I'm not aware of any insurers currently offering it and expect DOC to be removed completely over the next few years.

Many insurers have been burnt with offering DOC for under 25 years old, eg insure a 1.0l mini, drive 'Daddy's' impreza (and then crash it).

Out of interest, why do you require it?

yeah i kinda thought that, well i used to be with quinn and just find it useful when not having my car handy. Basically using my grandads 1.25 zetec fiesta to give a run and service it, repairs if needed. just a pain. and i also like the option of been able to drive my dads bmw :p haha. which i know is a reason insurances have sacked the idea due to this.

Thanks for your reply though! appreciated!

Your lucky I couldn't insure the fabia until I was 21 and it's still over 2£k and that is the rock bottom cheapest I could get it!

Flux quoted me £8k which is sickening and most insurers will not insure me

So just quick pm me with a rounderbout figure you'd offer??? For my area age ncb blah blah

Oh and sky have just quoted me over £2k too! FML! what a waste of money.

I'm paying 1k exactly and im 22. 1 year Ncb, fiancé on policy she's a learner. I have a claim very reasonable haha

Well...

If we're gonna have a rant about insurance (which isn't quite a Fabia only topic...):

I insured the octy earlier in the year via 1st Central Insurance (taking into account i'd been with them for 2 years and the insurance came down each year whilst using a Fabia), and the insurance went up. Bigger car, expected.

Anyway... I had paid up front for the insurance for the year, and chose to move house - literally down the road. Called up my insurer to let them know I would need my policy changing for a new address - same village, same postcode nearly - what did they want? £800!

At first I thought it must be a mistake - I insured the car for the whole year for less than that.

So I called them up:

"No sorry sir, we can't offer that and it will cost £800"

"That is more than it cost to insure the car in the first place for the whole year!"

"That is the best we can do with our broker"

"How much to cancel my policy then?"

"£50"

"I'll be back in touch...." *click*

10 minutes later, call them up after investigating via Tesco insurance who offered fully comp with the same details for £715 all-in (which is less than it would cost for the whole year on my previous policy)...

"I'd like to cancel my policy please and get a refund for the rest of my policy"

"We can offer to change your policy details for £700"

"Sorry, too late. For the cost of cancelling my policy and going elsewhere I will still save money. And all of a sudden offering to cut £100 off my initial quote? Too little, too late"

Suffice to say I changed insurer.

Don't be held to ransom by any insurance company when at the end of the day there are plenty of others falling over themselves to take your money - and when it comes down to a claim if it comes down to it... They're all pretty much the same and are all reluctant to release any cash anyway.

this wasn't a rant as such on my behalf. just a general question about the third party cover on other cars which i posted in the wrong section

2 young people insured on what the insurance industry will class as a 'hot hatch' will always be expensive. Nothing you me or Ollie at sky can do about that I`m afraid. The blame culture everyone seems to love now will carry on making insurance go up and up. 2 Choices, either accept your young and fairly inexperienced so will have to pay to drive a nice car or dont and run a **** box. Its not unique to you, only this year has mine dropped to under £1000, but I lived/live with it, as I love my cars.

If you see it as a waste of money sell the car and buy something else cheaper to run.

Anyway, wasnt this about 3rd party cover? Not another boring insurance moaning thread?

That's the easiest question I've had all day.

It is your 'BD' Bradford postcode, it is the highest risk area in the UK for car insurance. It is an area which is excluded from our car club scheme due to horrendous claims/loss ratios.

Cheers

Ollie

Ok, no worries. The definition of DOC is a grey area but it is really only for emergency use and only offers a very basic level of cover (third party). If you crash your grandad's car, his damage will not be covered but whoever/what ever you crash into will be (if covered under the DOC entitlement).

Just unlucky ;( I ain't bothered I've payed 2k+ since I've passed my test never dripped and I have considerd going back to the same model as my first car 1.25 fiesta mk4 but that's STILL £1900 for me to insure I know I'm young and i do take £2k+ every year never dropped but how long will it stay at 2£k I ain't blaming you at all because you work for insurance not own it nor make up the rules but it should drop at some point now just an example but 2 people I know have sporty cars and my insurance in nearly double there's and I'm just confused ha

Golf mk4 gt tdi £1200 for the year he's 20 with 2yrs ncb and a bump and bd19 postcode

Vw corrado vr6 2.9 £900 he's just turned 21 this bieng his first years insurance due to having a company van he's at bd12 which is far worse than bd19 having just moved back to bd19

See where the confusion is lol any ways not having a dig at you just at insurance in general.

I might make my self sound like a complete tool and people reading this say I'm a n*b but when you have abide by the law since u passed ya test and worked hard for what u have you think you'd get some reward?

I suppose that's life tho ;) I best move out int sticks get a good postcode before buying a better car :)

I`ll agree with that part, ALOT of the decision seem like a black art.

When i wanted to buy my VRS my insurance company wouldnt insure me because im under 25 so i swapped.. Im with Quote me Happy and pay £1500.. But that might change when i get my renewal in January as insurance has gone up for women now..

yes it was :)

Sorry for bombing it Ryan :( I'll shut up now haha ive had a fiew beers lol

A fiew? ;)

I'm with adrian flux and they allow me to drive other cars with the owners permission. Its always handy for when the cars in the garage or something.

At 21? They told me I had to be 24 or 25 I think. Buggers!

Wasn't expecting it but when the documents came through they said I could

would love this on my policy :p so many things i could do haha ;)

I`m gonna give them a bell then. Mine says on one bit I can but then there is a further exclusion clause for young drivers later on in the paperwork. I phoned to check and they said no, but I`ll ring again I think. :D
