2lt diesel Octavia

ASR light comes on after exactly 10 mins. Found another thread on the problem but relates to 1.9 fabia.

Engineer has checked and it doe not appear to be the gearbox cable. However a diagnostic check has identified an alternator problem?

(NB No problem with battery charging, and have had this fault for the last 2 months).

Should I just replace the alternator? any idea how much (2nd hand / refurbish would do)....or any other advise ref this issue.

No, a small piece of repair wire is all you need.

Your scan probably says something like implausible signal on alternator.

Most likely the wire/s is/are broken at the plug near the nearside wheel arch.

Undertray needs removed to get at it,

Cut plug out completely and rejoin the wires with repair wire allowing enough

slack to allow for movement which is what almost certainly caused them to break.

I stripped down a piece of 3 core flex to supply me with the wire used to fix mine.

Can't provide pics I'm afraid, I paid my indy to do it but I supplied the

wires/connectors to do it. Cost me half hours labour.
