Reminder program

Featured Replies

Morning all :) I asked on here a while ago about reminder software but i didnt really find anything suitable from the recommendations...does anyone have any ideas? What i need is a reminder that pops up on the screen and tells me what the reminder is. I need to be able to set it to remind me at any given time in the future. Lots of folk said use outlook but i cant get it to do the set it for a future date, i can get the calander to work.

Thanks in advance

Kit :)

In outlook you need to set it as an appointment/meeting in the calendar.

Simply chose the day and time you want reminding and create a new appointment.

You can also set recurring scheduled reminders so it pops up every day every other day once a week etc

If not that you could use sticky notes in windows 7 - not exactly a pop up reminder but lets you stick post it's with info on your desktop?

On a similar style to Outlook, Gmail with desktop notifications can give you a pop up to any upcoming calender events if that's easier?

I would say Outlook - I use it to death at work - reoccuring appointments etc etc.

Failing that would something like this work: http://www.beiley.com/remind-me/

I just cant see to get to grips with outlook !! I cant get it to give me a notification!! I can make a new appoitment and it asks when to be reminded but nothing happens when it gets to the selected date or time!!

Outlook must be running at all times to get the notification / reminder to show up.

When creating the appointment, ensure that the reminder is set - I auto default mine to NONE but you can alter the default time depending upon what you want.

It will then flash up like this:

You can see the "TEST TEST" appointment just below the reminder - obviously I've blanked out the rest of my calendar!

Right by fecking about with the poxy thing i can set a reminder but i cant get it to come up on the screen!! The wee icon in the bottom tool bar flashes that all and i cant get the sound to work!!!

K:)

It will only come up on the screen if you are working in Outlook - otherwise it will just "bong" and the taskbar will flash to alert you.

For the sound, in Outlook 2010 goto File - Options - Advanced - 4th down reminders - you can change the sound file.

Cheers coops :) But unfortunatly im not all ways in outlook!!The wee flashing icon in the tool bar is easliy missed!!...So that puts paid to that! What i need is for something to come up on the screen no matter what program im in!!

Right looks like you might have to go down the third party programme route, especially if you're not using Outlook all the time. I'm happy with it as I always have Outlook open at work and organise everything through the calendar.

You could try some VBA coding to get the window to pop up over everything else - in fact I've just done it but if you're not using Outlook regularly then it's pointless.

coops...i have outlook open but not always on the full screen...its normally shrunk down to an icon as i have lots of online databases open as im doing research, do i need it to be on the full screen all the time ?

is it just minimised on the taskbar or partly shutdown into the notification tray?

The VBA coding I've just done worked on my Outlook - I was working in Excel and the test reminder came up over Excel.

Its just minimised on the taskbar

K:)

If it's minimised then the taskbar icon will just flash and "bong" when there is a reminder, in standard Outlook.

The VBA coding I've added to Outlook means the reminder overlays everything and opens above the window you are working on.

If you are comfortable with it, I can detail the instructions to add the macro into Outlook? For some reason though it doesn't work with the first reminder, but does on subsequent ones? Can't figure out why though.

Thanks very much for all the help :)

Thanks for that Steve, does it work if chrome is minimised on the taskbar?

Cheers

Kit

Chrome doesn't even need to be open mate, still works. Pops up in the bottom right corner of the screen when i switch the computer on, listing the days upcoming events. they'll keep popping up until you dismiss them. Click on the reminder it'll take you to the google calender page with the full details. you can set reminders however long in advance you want them. Anything you add to google calender will also appear on your android smart phones (if you have one) calender too and vice versa as long as you sync it to google and again, anything added via your phones calender will also pop in on the desktop reminder.... (just make sure when entering stuff on the phone that you select google account when creating the entry.)

So in answer to the question, yes it will work with chrome minimized or open, or closed altogether.

Lightning add-on in Thunderbird. Really easy to use, very shallow l-c. Especially if you don't like Outluck.
