Coilovers fitted

Featured Replies

Well got my coilovers fitted last night, bit of a mission but got there in the end, being Pro Sport ones I knew from other members that there might be problems, so luckily I bought a set of shorter drop links in case, turned out they were required. Fitted superpro anti roll bar bushes and new top mounts and bearings too. The back are wound all the way down and have probably 12 mm left to drop at the front if I want. Couple of crap iPhone pictures

Rear needs to come up! Reverse rake reminds me of saxo's 10 years ago! Not a good look

was just thinking that, it doesn't look right as it is!

Nice to hear some advice, means I can put it right now. We weren't sure where to set the rears so wound them right down, could probably go up 20 mm at least

what did you do with the bump stops?

  • Author

As far as I know they were ok so my mate switched them over from the standard rears, I haven't really driven the car far since last night plus the old suspension is in the boot still which won't be helping matters

  • Author

Is there a chance they will be ruined now?

No but the rear bump stops need about an inch cut off them ;)

yup anywhere near that low and stock bump stops will equal crashy terrible ride, especially if you put any weight in the boot or people (not in the boot obviously..though you could, but its dodgy as carry people/bodies..not that i know...but still better to have them sat in the back seats, propped up if necessary..lol)

Lol, cheers guys, no expert in this department, suspension I mean, not body transportation. Does it matter what end of the bump stop I cut, the top would be my guess.

well on the rears they go onto plastic covers that come down and cover the shock, the other end fits into the topmount, so you need to reduce the mount in theory without affecting how it fits with the covers (if you want to fit them again, which i did) or get reduced oe or aftermarket ones. lol to the body transport...it was all speculation on my part, like you, i really have no experience!

No cut the bottom of them! The top fits snug inside the top mount! It will make sense when you see them.

Cutting the originals is fine

don't think they work with the covers then though. I cut mine in half took out a section the sikaflexed them back together!

Think I know what you mean, noticed that last night that it fitted that way, thought the bottom was the same .

They do ;)

Done it on my octy... Just takes a bit more strength to then refit the dust cover (and a screwdriver) but still fits snug inside the top mount

Where abouts are you in D&G Jase?

Annan bud?

good to know!

Go Pro Sport, yeah! Good coilies for the money, done 9 k on mine now and they have dealt with some tricky tracks and spirited driving and have been fairly adaptable.

get copper grease on the threads now while you can as when it comes to adjusting them in a couple of months itll burst your puss with frustration.

Ahh right, I'm in Newton Stewart, opposite ends of the region lol.

Cheers for the tip Lofty, il get some on when I'm adjusting the rears up to level the ride out.

Looks good, I think the front of mine is set at 13 threads and the rears are on 8 threads which gives it slight rake as the rear sits a touch higher than the front.

However to me it feels too soft on the road, and i'm on track at castle combe on the 8th December, and i'm worried it will handle like a pig unless I get it to stiffen up.

I haven't cut the bump stops and it seems ok at the rear, however I find the front is a bit bouncy (i've raised it from 3 threads to 6 threads and then upto 13 threads), so sometime next week i'll prob put the front onto about 18 threads in the hope that will make it stiff enough for me, without having it sat like a tractor again lol.

what did you fit cossie..?

if you are not too low, you shouldn't need to cut bump stops.
