I'm considering a new Superb V6 estate as a tow car - any feedback appreciated

Featured Replies

Diesel economy kicks in very hard under heavy loads. I wouldn't be surprised if the diesel would only consume half the fuel compared to the petrol while towing. Driving alone in the car without a caravan the differences might not be so obvious. I guess its low end torque that matters the most. All I can say is after 3 roadtrips to the Norwegian mountains - never again with a petrol.

Agreed there.

Trips with 4 adults and luggage with a petrol car always returned awful fuel economy. Every diesel I have had experiences a very small drop in fuel economy and they seem to cope better with the extra weight without hugely affecting the economy.

If you really want a V6 Superb then it sounds spot on for what you want but I wouldn't discount any other options straight away.

I think the car that would best suite here would be a Superb Estate 2.0 CR 140 DSG 4x4. Seems to tick all the boxes.

If only they did a CR170 DSG 4X4 .............

Thanks folks - what a great amount of feedback. The Octy is a non-starter because of the weight problem - it's just too light. The Audi would be perfect, but for the wheelchair problem. However, all is not lost, as I've now found out that I can get the VAT off any new car as I'm now wheelchair dependent. All I have to do is get the wheelchair lift (which I was buying anyway) fitted before delivery. This solves the diesel vs petrol problem! So - it's off to West End tomorrow to place the order...............

I know. Strange really but a 140 with a remap will tick that box. The 170 just has a slightly different turbo and bigger injectors but the 140 can easily manage 170bhp with a map.

Glad to hear you can get the offer and keep us posted regarding what you order etc.

But a remapped CR170 4x4 DSG would be even better ......

Of course.

I'm not sure why there is no 170 4x4 DSG. I don't think it's for technical reasons. I think it's more a marketing thing.

If they did the 170 4x4 DSG then nobody who wanted a poweful 4x4 with DSG would buy the V6.

Having said that there is no 170 4x4 DSG in the Yeti either.
