DSG spanner icon

Featured Replies

This morning I noticed a spanner/wrench icon where DSG normally shows what gear is on. It didn't look too alarming (no other error messages, or lights), so started driving. Apparently only available gear was 2, and drove maybe 1 km while trying to change between S and D, also tried changing manually with + - with no luck. Turned off engine, took kids to day care, and 10 minutes later when starting the car, no issues anymore.

This was the first time experiencing this, so drove to work normally (maybe 50 km) and called the car dealer (3 months old car, 6000km driven, 6 gear DSG). Dealer hadn't heard of this type of issue before and couldn't guess any reason why this would occur, so he advised me to see if it occurs the second time and only after that drive to maintenance.

Anyone else seen this behavior?

I haven't heard of this before but surely, if the car went into limp mode and the spanner icon appeared then there would be an error code in the ECU which the dealer should be able to read.

Sounds like the service interval display...check your manual. You should be able to check it on the menus in the MFD if fitted. Doesn't sound as though the car is old enough but can't think what else the spanner is for.

Thanks for replies. For later reference, it's called "limp mode" and it's indicated by this spanner icon.

Happened last week again (second time), and car is not in warranty repairs, going to pick it up soon. Suspecting there isn't anything (software update perhaps) as car was there only for like 2,5 hours until I got SMS that it is ready.

I have seen a couple of threads with this recently. A Yeti, and Octavia and now your Superb.

I think it's basically the gearbox that gets a dodgy reading from a sensor etc and puts the gearbox into limp mode.

Unless the fault can be replicated the garage won't be able to do much about it.
