Anyone know where the external temperature sensor is located?

they have traditionally been inside a wing mirror... but don't quote me on that!

No idea where they are on Skodas but My Astra was in the bumper low down

Just wondering if the mirrors being of the heating type, in the Elegance at any rate, might rule a mirror location out.

nope..... think its one of the most "controlled" spaces.... no wind to cool (underbody ect) no heat (well less than the lement in the glass) like under the bonnet or near the exhaust.... don't think my heated mirrors actually give off any noticable heat...

(again, happy to be corrected if wrong! lol)

I know for sure they were in the wing mirrors of my punto (heated) ... and they were way more accurate than the vauxhall company cars I've driven (old corsas) that were somewhere else.... they were deffo dependant on abiant heat from the car, i.e warmer in traffic jamms than on the run..)

oh, er... why? (by the way! lol)

edit: just read martyn's post, vauxhall = chassis would cause my obs....

on the roomster / fabia it is behind the passenger black plastic for the fog light in the bumper, there is a small hole about 10mm diameter fo air to hit the sensor

I'm just curious. I like to know these things lol. I have a general interest in the weather and want to understand the possible behaviour of the meter from its location. Just did a comparison today against a remote external thermometer, which has been checked against another, and produced equal readings in the comparison and thus I am assuming is accurate. There was only 0.1 deg C difference compared to the reference, at close locations, after driving the car.

I'll check for it there. Thanks.

i know that because i had to replace the sensor in its holder after an "insurance approved repairer" failed to replace it and left it dangling on the wires and i had some very strange temp readings when i was in traffic with the aircon on (temp went from 22deg to 42deg in a few minutes) as it is near the side of the radiator and get in the hot airflow from the rear of the rad when dangling

the sensor looked like half a tablet capsule with 2 wires coming out and black in colour

did some hunting online and found the location pulled the black plastic piece out and saw it dangling, worked out where it went (in a little grommet) put the plastic back and all sorted
