To sell standard or modified?

Looking to sell my 04 fabia vrs within the next few months, but Im not sure whether I'd be better selling standard or modified as it is!?

Currently it's got Jom coilovers, Audi A8 winters, decat and R-tech remap and pipercross panel filter

What are people's thoughts?

Standard... I wouldn't even look at a modified car.

dont tell them about the de cat, same with the filter. re map take off if you want to go that far, same with the coils if you've got standard?

Sell it modified, if you'd like to sell to 10% of the potential market and for less money than you'd get if you sold the shiny bits separate, and/or are a lunatic.

Standard definatley. Personally I wouldnt look twice at a modified car.

Another vote for standard, I just bought a VRS after a month of looking, I didn't want anything remapped or modified.

+4? on standard, dont look twice at modified cars, even if it had a list of modifications i'd do in the future...

Seing a Modified car puts you in the mindset that the car has been screwed about with, ragged all over mcdonalds car park... That kind of thing.

Well in the sense I would always buy a modded car over a standard model....

Well let me rephrase I would always buy from a well respected member of a good car forum over some random person. I bought all 4 of mine from forums minus my Ibiza which I have owned from new.

The 183,000 mile old MR2 is the only standard one I have, has cost me in the long term peanuts minus me wanting to get the top resprayed etc and has only ever died once when it needed a new battery.

The Gixer has been 100% spot on even after it was advertised as a track bike (so guess what its been ragged!) but on the up side the owner respected it and serviced/looked after it. Modded for track usuage but road legal.

The VX220 the last owner was minted... spent god knows how much (cost of a standard VX220 again I would imagine or close to) on selected mods has not ONCE in a years ownership let me down.

The Fabia bought off here from a sound chap. Minus me having to jump it as the bonger doesnt work for the lights and after a long stag weekend away forgetting about it when I got back home, its been 100% spot on again.

If I was looking to buy and I planned mods / thought I might in the future I would ALWAYS buy from a well known / respected member of a forum as ironically its less likely to have been "ragged all over mcdonalds car park" than a standard never serviced, never warmed up, cooled down, warped brakes, boost leaking standard version.

Of course if I was selling.... HELL NO. But it back to standard (minus the map) and sell the bits on and get the same cash for the car anyway :p 

Peculiar that people would buy an unmodded car and spend thousands modding it, yet a modded car is only worth the same as an unmodded one.

I personally would only want an unmodded car. My reasons are chances are a modded car has been ragged to the max - plus there's a reason they're getting rid of a car they've spent loads on (did they smash into a lamp post when they were making use of their 300+bhp and get a cut and shut repair?!). Increased insurance cost/decreased competition on the insurance market is also a factor. If I really wanted the performance, I'd buy something that had the performance without needing mods. I guess it speaks volumes I own a 1.4mpi and my biggest concern is fuel efficiency :D

Don't get me wrong though, I can understand wanting to get more out of something than it was designed for, and the joy in doing so. I've done overclocking on PCs which is pretty much analogous without the insurance implications.

tbh it depends really, if i turned up to look at the car and it was by some guy who seemed to be a complete bell end then i'd turn away. but if the guy was honest and had history on receipts etc.. that he had done the work and cared for it i would still go for it. if the gay was near enough same price as a standard one i'd take into account how much it would cost to get to the stage it is at.. but obviously people will see it differently. I'm 20. someone at 40 will not be interested at mods as such.

I'd personally try to sell standard. I wouldn't looks at a modified car when buying

Looks like it'll be going back to standard, that was pretty unanimous lol.

I understand what some have said about it being modded putting them off, but I've got a genuine reason for sale and all history and receipts are there to show anything thats been done and the cars never been 'ragged' like a lot you see forsale.

Bit gutted to be selling really, cant fault the car in anyway, never caused me an issue or wanted for anything!

for? car doesn't fail for no CAT. As diesel's aren't checked on emissions. same with the filter both will pass. and i find your comment abit abrupt. cheers.

Its all depends i wouldnt buy a modified one im 23 n a fully qualified mechanic but there is only so much u can check when looking to buy a car and its ok if they have receipts for buying the oarts but who has fitted it etc id rather no what was done to the car exactly down to a t if i was buyin a modified car

I'm the other side of 40 n been modding my rides for 20+ years. Obviously, i'm not of the maccie d brigade - just always love my boy's, modded, classic and single-seat track racing.

Maybe some day i'll grow up :giggle:

well this topic has gone from someone onabout should they sell there car modded or standard to rob saying he loves boys. where else is this thread leading .... :o

I personally think that if your car is mildly modified then you are better off returning it to standard. You will be selling to a wider audience, and as said you can sell parts on. If the car is heavily modified you are better off selling it "as is".

I would buy a heavily modified car all day long..the trick is being clued up on what your buying and whom from. ;)
